Johnny Giavotella’s Big Chance

by John Viril— Omaha 2B Johnny Giavotella is running out of time. He’s been crushing AAA for his third straight season (currently .323/.391/.471). He’s had three trials in Kansas City over the last 2 seasons. He’ll turn 26 on July 10. Johnny Giavotella still hasn’t established himself as a major league player. Instead, his repeated failure to hit in Kansas City makes him...

Could Santana be a long-term fit with Royals?

KANSAS CITY, Mo. Right-hander Ervin Santana is exactly the pitcher the Royals envisioned they were getting when general manager Dayton Moore traded for him last fall. And at some point this summer, Moore and the Royals will have to decide if he is a pitcher they envision in a Royals uniform beyond 2013. Santana is in the final year of the contract he originally signed with the...

Royals making most of getaway days

KANSAS CITY, Mo. Maybe its time the Royals started doing those Southwest Airlines commercials. They have become a team that knows how to get away. The Royals are 6-0 on getaway days those days the team plays on the same day it travels to another city. Monday they will get a chance to make it 7-0 when they wrap their homestand against the White Sox before heading to Baltimore...

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Alex Gordon hit an RBI single with two outs in the 10th and the Kansas City Royals, saved when Billy Butler sent the game into extra innings, rallied past the Chicago White Sox 6-5. Butler's two-out, two-run double in the ninth tied it for Kansas City. Lorenzo Cain led off the 10th with his third hit and stole second with one out. With two outs, Chris...

Cardinals, Royals Prospects on the Bubble

Two Double-A starting pitchers with volatile prospect values faced each other on May 1. Noel Arguelles of the Kansas City Royals and Seth Blair of the St. Louis Cardinals are in the midst of make-or-break seasons. Cuban native Arguelles signed a massive five-year, big-league contract as an international amateur free agent in January of 2010. It will pay him $7 million over the life...

White Sox game at Royals postponed due to weather

The Royals' game against the White Sox was postponed due to weather on Friday and will be made up Monday, when the teams were scheduled to have a day off. The Royals played into the fourth inning against Tampa Bay on Thursday before that game was also postponed with snow starting to fall on the field. The weather wasn't much better Friday. The temperature was hovering in...

Guthrie sets KC record, beats ChiSox

Jeremy Guthrie went from the scrapheap to the top of the heap. Guthrie ran his unbeaten streak to a club record 17 consecutive starts with a four-hitter in the Kansas City Royals' 2-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday night. Guthrie is 9-0 in the 17 starts, which started against the White Sox on Aug. 8, 2012. Left-hander Paul Splittorff held the Royals' record...

Jeremy Guthrie Is Cy Young vs The White Sox

Jeremy Guthrie has made a deal with God when he starts against the Chicago White Sox. He straight up OWNS the White Sox in the last 2 years.  Granted I just wrote about how anemic the White Sox offense is, so them getting schooled by any pitcher isn’t news but Guthrie is on a roll against the Pale Hose. Let’s take a walk down memory lane and remember the good old days when Guthrie...

May 4: Royals 2, White Sox 0

We considered just copy & pasting a wrap from a previous start Jeremy Guthrie had against the White Sox here. Because frankly, there's just not much to say. The Royals defeated the White Sox 2-0 on Saturday evening thanks to Guthrie (pictured above, H/T AP) and despite a very strong effort from Sox' starter Dylan Axelrod. After letting up two runs in the...

Series Preview 10: White Sox at Royals

The White Sox take their road show and modest two game winning streak into Kansas City to take on the first place Royals in a weekend series at Kauffman Stadium. The series win in Texas for the Sox was the first since the opening week of the season and was also the first time Texas lost a series this year. The Royals on the other hand just swept a weather abbreviated two...

Royals and their recent weather problems hit the Windy City

(AP) -- When Jeremy Guthrie beat the Chicago White Sox back in August, there's no way he could have realized it would be the beginning of an unbeaten streak that's only been seen one other time in Kansas City Royals history. Now he can't stop hearing about it. Guthrie looks to extend his streak to 17 starts without a loss as the Royals host the White Sox in the opener...

May 5: Royals 6, White Sox 5

Another day, another frustrating, stinging loss to the Kansas City Royals. However, the White Sox found a new way to make us all pull our hair out: blow a lead in the ninth inning. Addison Reed blew his first save of the season, and then Brian Omogrosso coughed up the lead in the tenth. Let’s take a look at what to take away from this one ... DEFENSIVE CIRCUS CONTINUES...
