New York Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada extended his hitting streak to 13 games last night in the teams 13-0 loss to the Marlins.  Tejada finished the game 1-3 and is now batting .362 (21-58) with four runs scored and two RBI during this current stretch.  Sure, former Mets shortstop Jose Reyes had a nice game himself, going 1-3 with a homer and a couple runs scored, but Mets fans are happy to stand by the 22-year-old Tejada who is hitting .331 (56-169) with a .367 on-base percentage since returning from the Disabled List on June 24.

Tejada’s maturity at the plate is evident and his .320 batting average is the highest among all major league shortstops (min. 250 at-bats) and his .368 on-base percentage is second only to Elvis Andrus of the Texas Rangers (.371).

Jose will have his days when he returns to Citi Field and while there’s a lot wrong with this Mets team right now, Ruben Tejada is not part of the problem, he’s the basis for a solution.
