Justin Ruggiano hit a solo home run in the ninth to give the Miami Marlins a 2-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday.   Before that, Kevin Slowey had another terrific start without the benefit of run support.   For the first time, Miami gave a run to Slowey but that was it and he remains 0-2 on the year despite a 1.90 E.R.A.  The win improved Miami to 4-13 on the season. Slowey allowed one run on four hits in six innings while striking out four and walking one.   At only 82 pitches, Slowey may have worked the seventh but was lifted in favor of a pinch hitter.  Chad Qualls, Mike Dunn, and Steve Cishek combined to keep the Reds at one with Cishek earning his first save of the season in the ninth.   The Marlins’ closer continues to lower his E.R.A which is now down to 5.68. The Marlins’ offense as led by Nick Green who went 3-4 with a run scored.   That run came courtesy of Placido Polanco who brought home Green in the third inning.  Ruggiano’s home run was his second in two days and third of the season.   The blast came off of Reds’ closer Aroldis Chapman who entered the game to try and keep it tied for the bottom of the ninth. Miami will try to make it two wins in a row on Saturday with Wade LeBlanc scheduled to start.
