Found December 05, 2012 on Reds Minor Leagues:
The Rule 5 draft is tomorrow. Today I wanted to look at a few Reds guys who have a chance of being selected and a who the Reds may select. The Reds Let’s start with the arms. Justin Freeman throws in the low 90’s with a good slider. He is coming off of a season in AA Pensacola where he posted a 2.91 ERA with 16 walks and 68 strikeouts in 68 innings pitched. Freeman isn’t a guy who will wow the scouts, but at some point results matter and he has had them for his entire career and his stuff is of Major League quality. Tim Crabbe is another guy who throws in the low 90’s with his fastball and he throws a good change up and mixes in a slider/cutter as well. He struggled in AA with the Blue Wahoos, but was very strong in the second half with the Blaze. He showed much better control in the second half. A team could be interested in his as a reliever where he could focus on his fastball/change up. Mark Serrano, like the others, has a low 90’s fastball to work with and he mixes in an above-...

Ludwick and Reds still talking as Winter Meetings end

Well, Walt Jocketty showed up to baseball's 2012 Winter Meetings, so there's that. Nothing of note really happened at Opryland Hotel in Nashville, concerning the Cincinnati Reds though. Don't be discouraged however. Last year after the winter meetings, Jocketty was able to acquire Mat Latos, Sean Marshall, and Ryan Ludwick who were all key pieces in 2011. Here's a...

Reds named Organization of the Year

The Reds players pause for a moment around the cup during their division-clinching celebration.Well, I didn’t even know that Baseball American gave out an Organization of the Year Award. In fact, for a moment, I wondered if it was another first-time-ever-given awards, like that Wilson Defensive Player of the Year Award. But I looked it up, and it’s been given since 1982. It...

Baker: Reds want to find right time for Hamilton

The Cincinnati Reds need a leadoff man and record-breaking speedster Billy Hamilton could fill the spot. Even so, manager Dusty Baker is wary of promoting him too fast. The 22-year-old Hamilton stole 155 bases this season while splitting time between Double-A and Class-A. He hit .311 during his fourth pro season, then did well in the Arizona Fall League. Baker said Monday at the...

Click buttons just like real baseball owners do

It’s been a quiet off-season for the Reds, so when I noticed the link to MLB’s new Facebook game, I actually gave it a try. MLB Ballpark Empire puts you into the highly realistic situation of playing baseball in an open lot with your brother, only to have a rich developer walk up and offer you the opportunity to operate a major league team. You install seats, renew player contracts...
