Yankees backup third baseman Eric Chavez is a free agent this offseason, but instead of looking around for more work he is leaning toward retirement, according to Joel Sherman of the NY Post. Chavez, now 33, was once a star for the Oakland Athletics where he played for 13 years. However, injuries have become a serious problem for him over the past five or so years and he has not been the same caliber player recently. In his year with the Yankees he spent two month on the DL with a foot injury and served as the backup third and first baseman while hitting .263 with a .676 OPS. The Yankees don’t really need him back as Brandon Laird plays the same position and should be ready for the major leagues next season. Who is to Blame for Yankees Postseason Failure?

In two games of a five game series the Yankees scored nine and 10 runs. Those should be easy wins. That means they needed to win just one close game out of three other games in the series, but they couldn’t do it. What happened? Who is to blame? Let’s run down the list of some of the bigger culprits. Joe Girardi: His pitching changes yesterday were a lightning rod for...

Yankees Season is Over as the Fat Man Dances

John Sterling’s famous saying is that you can’t predict baseball, but with the way Alex Rodriguez has been hitting since having knee surgery this summer this Yankees ending was pretty predictable. For the second time in as many years the Yankees season ended as A-Rod struck out and as Jose Valverde danced off the mound, the Tigers marched on to the ALCS. A-Rod was certainly...

The End Of The Road

Well, Yankees fans. Here we are again. The curtain has dropped on another season and unfortunately things didn't end up going our way. Mission 28 will have to wait another year.As I was getting condolences today from friends and family members on the loss, I tried to explain that it actually wasn't that bad. Sure the loss hurts but it's a manageable pain. I think...

Sabathia LOVES NY

New York Yankees pitcher C.C. Sabathia may be losing a bargaining chip if he does plan on using his opt-out clause. See Ken Davidoff of Newsday had a great article talking about C.C. and the opt out possibility but Sabathia felt inclined to respond. @CC_Sabathia: Missing the Bronx already,my daughter just asked me “can we go to Yankee game” I love NYC @Newsday by...

4-legged A Rod still at bat in New York

A Rod isn't faring so well at the racetrack, either. Yes, there is A Rod (no hyphen) the horse. Unlike A-Rod the Yankee, this colt's season isn't over although he sure could use a win. The 3-year-old, named in honor of Alex Rodriguez, will be entered to run Thursday at Belmont Park in a $20,000 claiming race. ''The owner is a big Yankee fan and named the horse...

Tigers 3, Yankees 2

One by one, almost all the big-money boppers had their chance. Alex Rodriguez, Robinson Cano, Nick Swisher. Bases loaded, two runners on - the New York Yankees never came up with that clutch hit Thursday night, and suddenly their season is over. No parade up Broadway, no sparkling World Series ring to go with the 27 others. No fairy-tale ending for Jorge Posada. Just a long, cold...

Frauds

Most times I love when I am right, but not in the case of the 2011 New York Yankees.  I hate that I was dead on in my assessment of this team.  As we all know the Yankees were eliminated by the inferior Detroit Tigers in game 5 of the ALDS.  I said all year they were going to lose in the first round of the playoffs, and sure enough they did.  The thing that plagued the...

A-Rod: "This Will Hurt for a Long Time"

Speaking with the media after the Yankees' 3-2 loss in Game 5, Alex Rodriguez talks about the pain of losing at home in a game he believes they should have won.
