Eric Chavez has been contemplating retirement since the Yankees season ended, but he told general manager Brian Cashman yesterday that he expects to play in 2012, according to Mark Feinsand of the NY Daily News. This doesn’t necessarily mean he will return to the Bronx, but Chavez has indicated that he would like to return to the Yankees if he didn’t retire. It’s going to come down to money though. Chavez earned a base salary of $1.5 million last season plus incentives. If he expects a raise the Yankees may simply go with Brandon Laird instead. Chavez was once a MVP-type player for the A’s but has had trouble staying healthy since 2006. That trend continued as he played in just 58 games off the bench, missing almost three months with a foot injury. New York Yankees Hot Stove: Cashman Signs Mets Lefty Reliever

According to Jon Heyman at SI tweeted that the New York Yankees have signed 31-year old, lefty reliever Mike O’Connorto what my Image by Getty Images via @daylife guess is a minor league deal. O’Connor pitched 6.2 innings for the New York Mets last season, where he gave-up five hits, two earned runs, three walks and struck out eight batters. Before that O’Connor had not seen...

Yanks Invite Wilson To New York

From Marc Carig:Pleased with what he described as general manager Brian Cashman’s “aggressiveness,” C.J. Wilson’s representative said today the Yankees have extended an invitation to visit New York, where he would meet with some of the team’s top decision-makers. Wilson’s agent Bob Garber, who met with Cashman at the general managers’ meetings, refused to divulge...

Rumors: C.J. Wilson Asking for 6-Years and $120 Million

Yesterday we heard that the Yankees believed the price for starting pitcher C.J. Wilson was too high and it didn’t take long to find out why. Wilson is supposedly looking for a six-year deal worth $120 million, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated. If that’s the asking price for Wilson than it’s easy to see why the Yankees wouldn’t like his price...

Yankees Notes: Swisher, DePaula, Cashman

It was on this day in 1954 that the Yankees and Orioles finalized a huge 17-player deal that took five days to fully process.  The most notable new Yankees were future Cy Young winner "Bullet" Bob Turley and Don Larsen, who achieved baseball immortality two years later when he threw the only perfect game in World Series history.  Some news from the modern-day Yankees...

Rumors: Yankees Met with Joel Pineiro’s Agent

In an article about the bare trade market, Mark Feinsand of the NY Daily News listed a few pitchers that general manager Brian Cashman has met with this offseason and in it included a name we haven’t heard yet, Joel Pineiro. Pineiro is 33 and is coming off of a two-year, $16 million deal with the Angels. He had a couple of very solid years from 2009-2010, but struggled through...

Yankees make pitch for starters

It remains to be seen whether the Yankees go after a big-ticket arm this winter, but Brian Cashman is certainly keeping his team in the mix. Cashman spent most of Tuesday sequestered with the rest of his fellow GMs as they met for six hours.

Offseason moving slowly for Yankees

Late Thursday night — or yesterday morning, to be precise — Brian Cashman finally turned off his phone. It was 3:49 a.m. and unlike other long nights when the Yankees’ general manager might be working on a trade or talking with an agent, this time Cashman was just trying to...

Rumors: Yankees Think Prices on Wilson, E-Jax are Too High

The Yankees have been in contact with most of the big name free agent starters so far this offseason, but we are hearing that they don’t like the prices on C.J. Wilson and Edwin Jackson and are planning to wait to see if their demands drop, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated. This goes along with what we’ve been hearing this offseason. The Yankees are interested...

Brian Cashman sleeps in Times Square for a night (really)

Brian Cashman normally operates in the lap of luxury. As general manager of the New York Yankees, he works in a world of $35 million setup men, big sweetheart deals for declining superstars and box seats that cost more than most mortgage payments. It has always been cool, then, to know that Cashman is still a very normal guy after spending all that time working for the world'...

Cash doesn't credit free agents

The general managers meetings came and went without any significant moves, but with the winter meetings less than three weeks away, Brian Cashman may have started laying the groundwork for future moves.

Yanks reportedly eyeing Wilson, Oswalt

The New York Yankees' search for starting pitching entered a new phase Tuesday, as general manager Brian Cashman met with the agent for free-agent pitchers C.J. Wilson and Roy Oswalt, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal. Wilson is the top free agent pitcher on the market, and Oswalt is a reliable fallback option. Cashman and agent Bob Garber sat down to discuss...

Free Agent Notes: Aramis, Chavez, Counsell, Wakefield

Let's round up the latest rumors on a few members of this winter's free agent class: Agent Paul Kinzer told Jim Bowden on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM (Twitter link) that, while Aramis Ramirez has a limited market, there are at least two teams very interested in the third baseman. Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports (via Twitter) that Eric Chavez'...
