While Brandon Phillips‘ name has been thrown around as a possible target during the offseason, the Cincinnati Reds want to make it clear that they have no plans to trade him. Of course, many times trades happen without any prior planning. An offer may come across the table to GM Walt Jocketty, and it may be too good to pass up.
According to Mark Sheldon of MLB.com, Phillips actually texted Jocketty when the rumors began to swirl. He asked if he was going to be trade, and Jocketty gave a reassuring answer. He did not guarantee that no trade would happen though.
“[Phillips] texted wanting to know if we were trading him. I told him that I have not spoken to anybody about that,” Jocketty said on Tuesday. “I’m not talking to any clubs about him.”
