Transitioning from the National League to the American League can be difficult for a pitcher. This is especially true for a player like Ryan Dempster, who spent the first 14 1/2 seasons of his career in the NL before being traded to the Rangers midway through last season.
The league switch gave Dempster some problems, as the right-hander’s ERA more than doubled from 2.25 in 16 starts with the Cubs to 5.09 in 12 starts with Texas. He remains in the AL but comes into this season — his first in Boston — with a renewed sense of confidence.
Jerry Remy joined Red Sox First Pitch on Tuesday to preview Dempster’s first start in a Red Sox uniform. Check it out in the video above.
