Ryan Doumit Could Sign a Deal Soon

Jerry Crasnick has an update on Ryan Doumit via Twitter, noting that Doumit could sign a deal in the next few days.  Crasnick noted that Doumit received two more offers today.  He also added that the interest has mostly come from American League teams, although he did receive an offer from an NL team today.

Crasnick had an update earlier this week that Doumit was expected to sign before the end of the month.  The other day I explained why the Pittsburgh Pirates would get a free draft pick if Doumit signed before November 23rd.  The short of it is that Doumit is a Type B free agent, and the Pirates could offer arbitration by the November 23rd deadline with no risk of him accepting the offer if he signs elsewhere before that date.

If Doumit signs elsewhere, the Pirates would get a compensation pick between the first and second rounds of the 2012 draft.
