Philly Sports World:
Injured star 1st baseman, Ryan Howard will make his return to the Phillies tonight against the Braves.
After a crushing walk-off loss to the New York Mets last night, it appears the Phillies are desperate. Even though he has only spent a week rehabbing in minor league baseball games, Ryan Howard is reportedly going to be activated tonight as the Phillies open a 3 game series against the Braves at Citizens Bank Park.
Howard has had a successful, albeit brief rehab stint in Single A Lakewood and Triple A Lehigh Valley. With the train really beginning to come off of the tracks for the Phillies, it seems like a good time to get Ryan Howard back in the lineup.
“I think he’s ready.” Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said after last night’s loss. And with that, Howard, who was supposed to come back some time after the All Star break is set to make his return to the club.
Without Ryan Howard, the Phillies have lacked a run producer in the cleanup spot. Carlos Ruiz, in the midst of a career year, has done a solid job batting clean up for the Phillies, but it’s clear that he is not the long term answer there.
As the trade deadline approaches, the Phillies only likely have a couple of weeks to try to get the ship righted before Amaro could be forced into making some moves. It’s usually better to make those moves knowing what your full team is going to look like. This will at least give the team and Amaro a couple of weeks of seeing how it will all come together.
“He’s had a little hitch in his giddy-up, but when he’s running full speed he looks pretty smooth.” Amaro said of Howard. Clearly Howard is not 100% after suffering a ruptured Achilles’ tendon and then having a setback with an infection on the surgical wound in February.
Ryan Howard at less than 100% still may be the best option this team has now. I just hope it’s not too soon.
BEST OF MAXIM
The Big Man is almost back will likely return tonight according to Todd Zolecki and he couldn’t return any sooner to this reeling Phils club. His return will be one of a pair that set the stage for the 2012 club’s last stand. With Ryan Howard‘s return, someone will have to return to Triple-A. With only 34 active and healthy players on the 40-man roster, no one will have to...
After his first night back in the major leagues after suffering a ruptured left Achilles tendon in last year's National League playoffs, Ryan Howard looked out at the bevy of reporters that surrounded him. He was eventually asked about how much of the load he could shoulder for a Philadelphia Phillies team on the brink of collapse. "Nothing more than this bookbag on...
Ryan Howard is making progress in his rehabilitation for an Achillies’ injury, and the star first baseman is expected to return to the Philadelphia Phillies for tonight’s game against the Atlanta Braves at Citizens Bank Park.
“Excited to be back in Philly tomorrow,” Howard posted on his Twitter feed and Facebook Wall, Thursday night.
Howard played back-to-back games in the...
Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard is likely to be in Philadelphia's starting lineup on Friday, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said after Thursday's loss to the Mets. Earlier in the day Amaro had said it was possible Howard would return to the team sometime this weekend. But he upgraded that later by saying Howard is likely to be in the starting lineup Friday. He...

The Phillies fans got their first look at Ryan Howard this 2012 disaster of a season and the results were the same, another loss. Howard had two hits in the 5-0 loss to the Braves which was a pitchers duel until the bullpen entered the game. Antonio Bastardo entered the game in the eighth to ruin a great pitching performance by Kyle Kendrick...
The time for excuses is coming to a close. Chase Utley came off of the DL last week, and today, the Phillies have activated first baseman Ryan Howard.
Howard torn his Achilles tendon last October in game five of the NLDS against the Cardinals, and played six rehab games, tallying eight hits, two doubles, one homer, three walks, and three strikeouts.
The Philadelphia Phillies' 2012 season sank to a new low on Thursday at Citi Field. All-Star closer Jonathan Papelbon, who had reeled off 17 straight saves to begin his Phillies career, blew his second save opportunity in his last three chances in a 6-5 loss to the Mets. The defeat put the Phils a season-high 13 games behind the Washington Nationals in the National League East...

Well I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but I guess it won't hurt.
According to MLB's Todd Zolecki, Ryan Howard is likely to start tomorrow's game vs the Atlanta Braves. The Phillies will open a three-game home stand before headed into the All-Star break.
The first baseman hasn't played with the Phils...

Yesterday was just pathetic. Seriously, you have to give an effort to lose like that. The Phils had the series in the bag until the 9th inning of yesterday's game that ended with a Mets walk-off win. The Phillies are looking to turn a new direction this weekend as they head into the All-Star break. They will host a three-game weekend series...
When Ryan Howard made the final out of the Philadelphia Phillies' 2011 season in Game 5 of their NL Division Series, few may have realized how much more disappointment would follow in subsequent months.
The last-place Phillies hope his return can provide a spark.
Howard seems likely to play for the first time this season Friday night in the opener of a three-game set with the...

Atlanta Braves (43-39)
The Braves and Phillies play the first game of a three-game set and the fourth of 18 contests between the two clubs this season. OF Jason Heyward and C Brian McCann each clubbed two-run homers off Matt Garza last night’. The two, two-run round-trippers marked the first time in 10 years that the Braves had more than one homer...
Final: Braves 5, Phillies 0.
WP: Tim Hudson (7-4, 3.56 ERA)
LP: Antonio Bastardo (2-3, 5.34 ERA)
Up until the top-half of the 8th inning, Friday night's game was played at a rapid, scoreless pace. Both starters lasted seven innings, giving up zero runs to their opposition. Things turned for the worse for the Phillies, after Kendrick exited the game. Antonio Bastardo allowed...

The Philadelphia Phillies sit 13 games back of first place. 13. It’s an almost unfathomable number. No one said it would be easy, but no one could have predicted it would be this hard for the Phillies this season.
Ryan Howard’s return was disappointing, not because of his 2 for 4 performance, but...
Phils decided they wanted to get younger for Friday’s game so they’re bringing up this guy from the minors. They say he’s got good power, but he’s been playing first base on a foot stool. At least they could’ve got Ryan Howard one of those giant Rawlings glove bean bags. So Howard’s Achilles is better, but now the Phillies’ Achilles is they have to play him. If...
