The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Ryan Pepiot from Triple-A Oklahoma City and designated Tyson Miller for assignment prior to Wednesday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Pepiot is scheduled to start the finale of the three-game series at Dodger Stadium. It marks his third overall game with the Dodgers but first start.

Pepiot previously joined the Dodgers as the 27th man for a doubleheader on two separate occasions. However, in both instances he pitched out of the bullpen.

In his 2023 Dodgers debut against the Miami Marlins on August 19, Pepiot followed an opener in Caleb Ferguson. Five days later, the Dodgers again started Ferguson but went to Ryan Yarbrough for three innings before having Pepiot enter the game.

Through his first two appearances with the Dodgers, Pepiot has allowed one run each time out and collected a total of 11 strikeouts over nine innings pitched. Perhaps most encouraging, the right-hander has only issued one walk.

“I feel more confident having that experience under my belt of being able to go out there,” Pepiot said earlier this month when asked how he’s grown since making his MLB debut in 2022. “Just doing what I can to help the team win.”

After Pepiot pitched in the second game of a doubleheader against the Guardians, he was optioned back to Oklahoma City but instead reported to Camelback Ranch to work with the organization’s pitching coaches.

He was named the replacement for Tony Gonsolin in the Dodgers’ Opening Day rotation but began the season on the 15-day injured list as well due to a strained left oblique that also became an intercostal injury that delayed his return.

Dodgers designated Tyson Miller for assignment

Miller pitched two scoreless innings on Tuesday night, striking out two. In two games with the Dodgers, he allowed two runs in four innings.

He was recently claimed off waivers by the Dodgers when he was designated for assignment by the New York Mets.

He has pitched for the Milwaukee Brewers, along with the Mets and Dodgers, this season and he has a combined 4.70 ERA in 15.1 innings with 10 strikeouts. He has been in the Majors parts of three seasons, also spending time with the Chicago Cubs in 2020 and Texas Rangers in 2022.

He’s posted a 2-2 mark with a 6.97 ERA and 18 strikeouts against 18 walks in 31 innings. In his Minor League career, he has appeared in 156 games (100 starts), recording a 4.06 ERA and 578 strikeouts against 200 walks in 594.2 innings.
