Infielder Ryan Theriot might be a good fit for the Reds after the Cardinals declined to tender a 2012 contract offer Monday, making him a free agent.
Theriot, who hit .271 last season, is not great defensively – 17 errors in 91 games at shortstop. But he’s a utility guy who plays shortstop. That’s a stated need of the Reds.
Theriot has played mostly second and short in his career. But he’s played nine games at third and 11 games in the outfield.
Just idle speculation by the Fayman, methinks. Fay does, however, end with this noteworthy paragraph:
The Reds, so far in this offseason, have not added one player outside the organization to the roster.
