Ryan Zimmerman has gained a reputation as one of the best defensive third basemen in all of baseball ever since he entered the league in 2005. His slick glove-handling and rocket arm led to an NL Gold Glove award in 2009 and he should have won last year if it wasn’t for Scott Rolen (Reds) getting a career-achievement award. But his latest throwing motion is a cause for concern for the Washington Nationals. Ever since he came back from abdominal surgery two weeks ago, the former University of Virginia star altered his throws so he wouldn’t re-injure the area. The throws now look like he’s playing a weak game of catch instead of trying to get runners out. Since his return, he’s committed three errors (all throwing) in 12 games at third. The throws from Z-Pack now look awkward during every phase. It’s more of an overhand lob than an actual throw and his injury has sapped his arm strength and the accuracy isn’t there.
