Nationals manager Davey Johnson calls the series of injuries to his players ''ridiculous'' - and he's even joking about sacrificing a chicken or finding some other way to change the team's luck. Carlos Maldonado is the newest member of the Nationals, a catcher brought up from Triple-A Syracuse for Tuesday's game against the Padres. Maldonado was needed because Washington's starting catcher, Wilson Ramos, blew out his right knee Saturday and could be outfor the season, and the guy called up to replace Ramos on the roster, Sandy Leon, went on the DL with a high right ankle sprain. It doesn't just seem as if the Nationals are losing players on a nearly daily basis - they really are. Says first baseman Adam LaRoche: ''You hope it stops sometime soon.''

Stephen Strasburg got 'hot stuff' in 'the wrong place'

The Nationals' phenom had a poor outing vs. the Padres on Tuesday, but apparently he had a perfectly legitimate reason for doing so.

Mike Morse delivers shaving cream pie to the face of Xavier Nady

Report: Ramos to miss rest of season

Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos said Wednesday he will have surgery on his torn right anterior cruciate ligament in two to three weeks, forcing him out for the remainder of the season, The Washington Post reported. Ramos was injured as he chased a ball in the seventh inning of the Nationals' 2-1 win over Cincinnati last Saturday. The 24-year-old said he had not suffered any...

Washington Promotes Defensive Whiz Sandy Leon

With the loss of yet another baseball player to a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) comes a fresh opportunity for a young, inexperienced prospect. The Washington Nationals organization has replaced starting catcher Wilson Ramos with part-timer Jesus Flores and called up rookie Sandy Leon to serve as the new backup. Leon is known as a glove-first catcher but his bat began to...

Umpires at Nationals game not ready after rain delay ends (Video)

Tuesday's Washington Nationals game against the San Diego Padres was set to resume in the top of the first inning after a brief 8-minute rain delay, and everyone was ready to go...except the umpires. Your browser does not support iframes. Home plate umpire Brian Gorman was ready to call balls and strikes, but had to call time as Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg was getting...

So a horse and a giraffe go to a Washington Nationals game… (photos)

While the title above sounds more like a lame opening to a silly joke, it was actually literally the case during the Cincinnati Reds-Washington Nationals game on Sunday afternoon at Nationals Park. Well, the two aforementioned creatures weren’t technically a horse and giraffe but instead were two fans wearing horse and giraffe heads, which begs [...]

Easy as 1-2-3

(Sean Burnett cleans up H-Rod's mess in the 9th, turns 1-2-3 double play to end the game. Screengrabs via MLB.TV/MASN) "I still haven’t lost confidence in Henry, but probably was asking a lot with that was his third day in a row going and he threw a lot of pitches in Cincinnati. So I’ll probably give him off tomorrow regardless. But I still have a lot of...

Harper hits first major league HR

Bryce Harper is as sentimental about his first big league homer as he is about the rest of the many milestones in his baseball career. The ball's headed for a cardboard box. The 19-year-old rookie became the youngest major leaguer to homer since 1998 with a solo shot in the third inning of the Washington Nationals' 8-5 victory over the San Diego Padres on Monday night....

Padres 6, Nationals 1

Anthony Bass (2-4) - making his 10th start in the majors - tied his longest outing by going...

Jordan Zimmermann has been a big part of the Washington Nationals' success on the mound. Pittsburgh Pirates counterpart James McDonald has made significant contributions to his team as well. Zimmermann takes the hill opposite McDonald as the Nationals try for a two-game sweep of the visiting Pirates on Thursday night. Washington (23-14) has posted a major league-best 2.89...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Washington Nationals – Game 37

#Correia4Bullpen No rest for your Buccos.  They obviously slept with whoever makes the schedules significant other.  No rest traveling from Pittsburgh to Florida to Washington to Detroit back to Pittsburgh?  Seems fair on top of the hardest schedule in baseball.  You know how I feel about fairness though. First Pitch: 7:05 PM EST Where to [...]
