A popular band from Seattle sang, “run and tell all of the angels, this could take all night.” Well tonight in Seattle, the Angels were possibly thinking that this game could take all night to finally end, as the Seattle Mariners beat the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 8-3. The Mariners put a nice eight to nothing cushion for Joe Saunders to work with into the seventh inning which is where his night ended. After 109 pitches, the Safeco Field crowd of 21,372 went to their feet to show their approval of Saunders pitching over the night, and he allowed just five hits in seven shutout innings, while giving two free passes to first, and giving five a trip back to the dugout with a frown on their face after being struckout. Safe to say “Safeco Joe” was doing just fine tonight. He wasn’t the only one as Raul Ibanez had himself a night as well. He went 3-for-4 on the day with a double… oh, and a pair of monster home runs! Ibanez’s first home run hit the second deck of the Safeco Field right ...

Mariners have a good thing going at the top of the order

Youth propelling change When Jack Z took over the reigns of the Seattle Mariners front office, he asked for patience. He wanted to build a talent laden farm system that would eventually translate to a young, exciting team that would finally put the Mariners in contention once again. Well, Mariner faithful, it seems that time is approaching. With the call ups of both SS Brad Miller...

Three M’s in AAA to keep your eye on for fall call-ups

September’s Looming Let’s face it, the Seattle Mariners‘ organization has had a tough go-of-it in the past decade. After Bill Bavasi trashed the organization with some of the worst moves in league history and subsequence managers and presidents failed to correct his mistakes, fans of the Mariners have been left with a product on the field that is less than desirable. While...

Mariners set record in 8-3 win over Halos

SEATTLE (AP) -- Raul Ibanez homered twice to give him 24 this season and the Seattle Mariners set a team home-run record in an 8-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night. The 41-year-old Ibanez hit a fourth-inning blast 438 feet into the right-field second deck and a 421-foot shot to center in the seventh. He has the fourth most homers in a season for a 41-year-old...

Mariners recall Morse, designate Bay

Outfielder Michael Morse has been recalled from his rehabilitation assignment by the Seattle Mariners and veteran outfielder Jason Bay has been designated for assignment. The Mariners made the moves on Monday before opening a six-game road trip at Boston and Baltimore. Angels-Mariners Preview

Seattle Mariners starter Joe Saunders is still looking for his first victory over his first major-league club, although that's not entirely his fault. He's enjoyed success against several of the Los Angeles Angels' stars, and has shut down Josh Hamilton this season after previously struggling in those matchups. Hamilton, however, is heating up with four homers and 10...

Seattle Mariners Trade Candidates: Who Can Go? Who Should Go?

The Seattle Mariners activity and aggressiveness at the trade deadline this year will tell us a lot about the future; not just who will be a part of it but how ownership and upper management feel about the prospect of Jack Zduriencik and Eric Wedge returning for 2014.  I, for one, think that Jack Zduriencik should be back in 2014 but that is a post for another day.  If the Mariners...

Mariners 6, Angels 0

Felix Hernandez threw eight shutout innings and Justin Smoak drove in four runs off Los Angeles starter Jered Weaver, including a three-run homer, in the Seattle Mariners' 6-0 win over the Angels on Saturday night. Smoak had an RBI single in the fourth inning that gave Seattle the lead, then provided the big blow in the sixth to cap a two-out rally. Kendrys Morales and Kyle...

Optimistic Observations From A Mid-July Seattle Mariners Game

After attending the Boston Red Sox’s 11-4 beat down of the Mariners last night, I left Safeco Field even more thoroughly convinced that this season was as a lost cause for Seattle. However, in the spirit of optimism, I have decided to think about the good things. The Mariners have been struggling at the bottom half of the AL West for pretty much the whole season, but their shortcomings...

Oliver Perez: Pitcher You Want

Some time ago, in talking about the upcoming trade deadline, Dave offered Jesse Crain as a potential alternative to the potentially expensive Jonathan Papelbon. Relievers are always in demand around midseason, and Crain was proving himself to be a hell of a weapon. Shortly thereafter, Crain went and landed on the disabled list, and while his value wasn’t completely obliterated...

Seattle Mariners: Bad series vs. Red Sox

The Seattle Mariners followed up a strong road trip Monday by defeating the Boston Red Sox soundly 11-4.  Then, Boston returned the favor putting up 11 runs on back-to-back nights in winning Tuesday and Wednesday.  Still, Seattle had a chance to earn the four game series split against the A.L. East leading Red Sox, but let 5-1 and 7-4 leads get away before eventually falling 8...
