Fenway West:
The Red Sox released Takashi Saito and yesterday he cleared waivers. The team is interested in bringing him back, just not at the $6 million they would have had to pay him if they picked up his option. By letting him become a free agent they can now negotiate to bring him back at a lower salary. There is some risk to this as he may opt to sign elsewhere for more money but it is a risk Theo is willing to take.
