Even while he was away at Double-A San Antonio for 17 days, right-handed pitcher Andrew Cashner created as much interest as any Padre this season. Acquired from the Cubs last January in a trade that sent first base prospect Anthony Rizzo to the Cubs, the lanky 6-foot-6 Cashner drew immediate interest in spring training simply for throwing triple-digit fastballs and 90 mph changeups. Every time he took the mound for the Padres, fans moved forward in their seats. You don't see a lot of that in San Diego these days. After 27 appearances out of the bullpen, Cashner was transformed into a starter -- a change that forced him to detour to Double-A San Antonio to stretch his endurance, work on holding runners on and sharpen his secondary pitches. The native Texan returned to the Padres in Houston on Thursday night and took a no-hitter into the seventh before allowing a single to Carlos Lee and a homer by Brian Bogusevic.
