#mets talked to AZ about upton/kubel. prospect/player price 2 high on @jus10up10, kubel not perfect fit. — Jon Heyman (@JonHeymanCBS) January 7, 2013 As much as Jason Kubel can hit homers and Justin Upton is talented, the cost far outweighs the reward in this scenario. Upton might cost a package starting with Jon Niese. We are building toward having a dominant future pitching staff, which is a formula we’ve seen work in baseball (cue San Francisco Giants). I like Kubel, but the Mets are too lefty heavy as it is, and Duda might be able to put up similar production. There’s definitely more viable options around. Thoughts?  The post Say No to Upton, Kubel appeared first on The Daily Stache.

D’Backs More Likely To Trade Kubel

The Diamondbacks are looking to get young pitching from the Orioles in a trade for outfielder Jason Kubel, but Baltimore has been reluctant to do that to this point, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Arizona has a surplus of outfielders and some believe that they would prefer to trade Kubel instead of the more desirable than Justin Upton. The 30 year old Kubel batted .253...

Source: D-backs won't trade Upton to Padres

PHOENIX -- Scratch San Diego off the list of possible landing spots for Justin Upton or Jason Kubel. The Padres and D-backs front-office teams touched base about a possible trade involving Upton, according to a baseball source, but were unable to find a match because the player the D-backs are most interested in acquiring, third baseman Chase Headley, will not be traded. At the...

Analyzing Hypothetical Headly for Upton Trade

Justin Upton – Photo by: CEBImagery.com Yesterday we learned that at some point in July the Padres and Diamondbacks at least discussed the possibility of a trade involving Chase Headley and Justin Upton. Those discussions were supposed to have continued on and off since. The report on MLBTraderumors attributed that information as coming from “major league sources,” and while...

Mets and D’Backs Discussed Upton and Kubel

The Mets and Diamondbacks have had discussions about potential trades involving outfielders Justin Upton and Jason Kubel, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Heyman adds that Arizona’s asking price was too rich for the Mets’ tastes on Upton, while Kubel wasn’t a perfect fit for the team. I wonder what they wanted for Upton? With Alderson you just never know because when...

Defense a big difference between 2011 and 2012 Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks have had two seasons that pretty much defy their actual run differential. That defiance was good in 2011 and not so good in 2012. The similarities between the offense was minimal. The Diamondbacks scored 734 runs in 2012 and 731 in 2011. The pitching was not that far off either. The pitching allowed 688 runs in 2012 compared to 662 in 2011. And yet in 2011...

Diamondbacks Rumors: Orioles, Arizona Talking Jason Kubel

The Diamondbacks are discussing outfielder Jason Kubel with the Baltimore Orioles, and Arizona is seeking young pitchers from the O’s in return, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. However, to this point, Heyman says that Baltimore is “disinclined to do that.” #dbacks seek young pitchers from #orioles for kubel. To this point Baltimore disinclined to do that. ...

Justin Upton for Chase Headley? The Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres have held on-and-off discussions about a trade involving those players since July, but the talks have failed to progress, according to major-league sources. The Diamondbacks, however, continue to discuss Upton with other clubs, including the Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners, sources say, while also...

Upton for Headley? D-backs still talking deal

Sources say Headley for Upton swap has been discussed

You just never know what you might come across on the internet. Today a brief post on MLBTR really caught my attention. Citing “major league sources,” Zach Links writes that a potential deal involving Padres 3B Chase Headley going to the Diamondbacks in exchange for OF Justin Upton has been discussed on and off since last July. That rumored deal probably made a lot more sense...

Rangers Rumors: Michael Bourn, Justin Upton, Kyle Lohse

Even after the Lance Berkman signing, the Texas Rangers are still “looking for more,” according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, who adds that free agents Michael Bourn and Kyle Lohse and Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Justin Upton could all be in play for the club. #rangers still looking for more after adding berkman. Bourn, upton, lohse could be in play. — Jon Heyman...

Heyman: Mets have checked in on Upton and Kubel

The New York Mets appear set to begin the season with a starting outfield consisting of Mike Baxter, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, and Lucas Duda.  I honestly think you’d be hard pressed to find a scout around the league that thinks any one of those guys (let alone all three) is currently a legitimate starting outfielder, so to say this is a point of weakness for the Mets is an understatement...

Padres, Diamondbacks Discussed Chase Headley, Justin Upton Trade

The Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres have held on-and-off discussions about a trade involving outfielder Justin Upton and third baseman Chase Headley since July, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. While those talks have failed to progress, Rosenthal notes that the Diamondbacks continue to discuss Upton with other clubs, including the Texas Rangers and Seattle...
