Max Scherzer is starting to make things look easy. Coming off a 75-pitch one-hit performance in six innings in his last outing Scherzer extended his shutout streak Saturday night. Scherzer allowed just three hits and no runs in 7.2 innings fueling the Tigers’ 3-0 victory over the White Sox and dazzling a sellout crowd of 43906 at Comerica Park on Saturday. The Tigers picked up their seventh straight win and 11th in their last 12 games to stay three games ahead of the red-hot Indians and 7.5 in front of the charging Royals. “The thing I like the most is we got 16 wins when he pitches — that’s the best tonic there is. He’s done a terrific job for us” manager Jim Leyland said. “The one good thing about our club is we go out each and every day knowing we put a good pitcher out there. “If you gut it out and tough it out every day day in and day out you have a chance and they feel really good about the pitcher we put out there on a daily basis.” Scherzer improved to 16-1 the first in the majors this season to 16 wins; it also tied his career high for wins in a season set last year. The only hits Scherzer gave up were a leadoff single to Adam Dunn in the third a single to Conor Gillaspie in the seventh and Alejandro De Aza’s single in the eighth that ended his night — one strikeout shy of 1000 for his career. He allowed three walks but was able to pitch out of any jams without any White Sox runner reaching third base on his watch. “I walked three. But that’s always one thing I pride myself on not walking guys” Scherzer said. “I was able to pitch around those. I didn’t let some of those guys beat me in some of the situations. I thought I was pitching with four pitches and keeping the ball down.” In his three starts since the All-Star break Scherzer has three wins with just two earned runs on eight hits and three walks. He has 18 strikeouts. Jose Veras got the final out in the eighth and Joaquin Benoit earned his 12th save with a smooth ninth.
