It’s no secret that I’ve always had a special place in my baseball heart for Scott Feldman.  I was probably among the very few who liked him toward the end of his Rangers tenure.  And I will take full blame for his regression after that 2009 season.  I bought a Feldman shirsey and he was never quite the same. He seems to be OK with the Cubs though.  Especially against his former team.  Tonight, he held the Rangers scoreless and almost completely off the bases.  Through seven innings, Texas only reached base three times — two hits and a walk.  Oh, and Feldman also collected an RBI.  Go figure. Meanwhile, Nick Tepesch was not having a good time with the Cubs’ lineup.  He only lasted four innings, giving up six runs (five earned) on six hits and four walks.  That 4th inning was especially ugly — the Cubs scored five in that time.  Chicago got another run off Michael Kirkman, but then couldn’t do much against Joe Ortiz.  They got two runs off of Derek Lowe, but who’s really surprised? Cubs rumors: Scott Feldman likely trade candidate

With the summer trade deadline on the horizon, one arm to keep an eye on is Chicago Cubs right-handed starting pitcher Scott Feldman, according to Buster Olney of ESPN. With the Cubs clearly still rebuilding, Feldman is likely to become a trade chip if his impressive start continues. The Cubs signed several veteran arms -- including Feldman, Edwin Jackson and Scott Baker -...

Sweeney up, Sappelt down

From cubs.com: The Cubs are expected to call up outfielder Ryan Sweeney from Triple-A Iowa and option Dave Sappelt to the Minor Leagues on Monday. This is an interesting move. On one hand, Sweeney is almost certainly the better baseball player at this point. Sappelt just hasn't really made an impact at the major league level, for one reason or another. Additionally, this allows...

JOT: Cubs Minor League Recap 5-7-13

Also known as *************** 2013! Iowa Cubs 0 @ Colorado Springs 5 This was bad. Dave Sappelt went 1-3 with a strikeout. It was the best offensive performance on the team. Interestingly, Logan Watkins played SS. He got on via FC (0-4) and stole a base. Only Luis Flores, Nick Struck, and Edwin Maysonet reached base otherwise; everyone else went 0-fer. As a team, the Iowa Cubs...

Chicago Cubs Purchase Contract Of Outfielder Ryan Sweeney

He will have to clear waivers if Chicago wants a shot at retaining his services...

Can Yu Darvish strike out 300 hitters this year?

Yu Darvish is having an unreal sophomore season for the Rangers. In seven starts and 45 2/3 innings, Darvish has a 2.56 ERA, accrued 1.9 fWAR, and has struck out a league-leading 72 hitters. To put in perspective how vast the 15 strikeout difference between Darvish and second-place AJ Burnett is, consider the fact that Burnett could throw a nine inning complete game at his current...

Is the Rangers' fast start a mirage?

Timing is everything in life. No team in baseball knows that better than the Texas Rangers who are off to a 20-12 start, giving them the second-best record in the American League. Considering their success in recent years, there is no doubt that the Rangers are good, but are they really as good as their record suggests or are they just the beneficiaries of some really good timing...

So Cicero wants da Cubs

Yesterday Mr. Boylan was kind enough to give us an account of Tom Ricketts’ lunch with the Lakeview Chamber of Commerce, where he discussed the Wrigley renovation stuff for the bazillionth time since he took over as owner of the Cubs.  Given the fat packet application and the signs of impending construction that Anno has observed while walking around Wrigley, it seems very apparent...

The Rangers, Red Sox and St. Louis all have 20-11 marks. Beltre lined a hit to right-center off Clayton Mortensen (0-2) that sent home Elvis Andrus, who...

Travis Wood is gonna win the Cy Young! And other exercises in hyperbole

So yay, the Cubs won!  Woohoo!  And just as in every other sport, performances in one game, whether it’s in a 16-game, 82-game or 162-game season, is enough to make broad sweeping statements about players.  Take this, for example:   Sveum called Wood the best pitcher in baseball which stunned Wood to hear — Jesse Rogers (@ESPNChiCubs) May 8, 2013   Wow!  That is some epic...

Tom Ricketts Goes to Lunch
