Scott Hairston may not have been one of the hottest free agents on the market, but he is talented and will be productive.  And plenty of teams were interested in his services.  The Chicago Cubs recognize that and signed Hairston to a two-year contract. The deal is pending a physical, and as we have learned with Mike Napoli and Francisco Liriano, the physical is NOT a formality.  However, if/when Hairston passes the physical, he will be a member of the Chicago Cubs says Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.  The deal is said to be worth $8 million over the two years with incentives that could bring more money in for Hairston. The New York Mets were interested in re-signing Hairston, but their top offer had been a one-year, $3 million contract.  Hairston was looking for a multi-year deal. Hairston had one of the better years of his careers last season with the Mets.  He played in a career-high 134 games (meaning he stayed healthier than any other season and proved himself on the field).  Hairston also had a nice season at the plate.  He hit .263/.299/.504 with 20 home runs - also a career-high.  Hairston is a nine-year Major League veteran.  He has hit .247/.302/.449 in his career. And then there was none, Hairston to Cubs..

Photo by Michael BaronAfter joking at their own outfield or lack there of, the Mets have sat idly by as the free agent pool and trade markets have completely evaporated.  Now they appear left with the same outfield that they were making jokes about for most of the off-season.  All off-season they have danced around re-signing Scott Hairston making him a fallback guy who they could...

Great Scott!

With the reported signing (pending physical) of Scott Hairston (Jerry Hairston Jr.’s brother), the Cubs find themselves in a similar situation as a couple years back.  In 2011, for a brief while, the Cubs had Carlos Silva, Carlos Marmol, Carlos Pena and Carlos Zambrano for a Carlos party in the home clubhouse.  Hairston’s signing means that the Cubs now have three Scotts, with...

Frozen Ropes

Scott Free Sometimes things happen because they were meant to. Sometimes things happen because there was nothing else that could happen. There were not many suitors out there who were willing to get together with Scott Hairston on a multi-year deal. The Cubs may have been the only ones. Scott should be quite comfortable in the “friendly confines” and put up some impressive offensive...

Hits & Misses: Upton, Hairston, Bourn and the Dynamic Duo

What I love most about Zack Wheeler and Matt Harvey is their incredible determination and confidence. Each of them possess a similar swagger and they both exactly know what they want and go after it. They pair that confidence with a professionalism you don’t see very often in players so young. I’m sure you caught the comments Harvey made earlier this week about wanting to win...
