Yankees, Mets vie for Hairston es.pn/V5RFtm #NYM #Mets — Adam Rubin (@AdamRubinESPN) January 8, 2013 I am been trying to think about thinks from the player’s point of view, and I would not be surprised to see Scott Hairston make the “evil” decision and join the Yankees. Honestly, with the way the Mets are currently built, who can blame him? Although the walls have been brought in a bit, Citifield is still a pitcher’s park, and the confines of “the new” Yankee stadium are just downright dumb. Even as a part-time player against left handed pitching, Hairston should clobber 20-25 homers with the pinstripes as long as he stays healthy. So would he get cheered during his first at-bat returning as a Yankee? Hell no. Nobody cheers a Yankee, but he had a solid season as a Met, but this is a business. He’s got to do what’s best for him, and as a guy who’s not getting any younger, I wouldn’t blame Hairston for heading over to the Bronx. I think this notion of him being an everyday player for the Mets is overblown. If that is the case, he could be exposed, and that hurts his value. I think he’s found his niche as a lefty basher, and his smartest career move would be to play in the Bronx, and he wouldn’t even have to move.
