For those of you who were counting on Jorge Cantu as your starting second baseman out of spring training, Scott Hairston is somebody worth watching if you're in an ESPN league (where he has eligibility). He's been slotted in the five-spot in manager Bob Melvin's lineup for the team's first two opening games, and hit .419 with seven homers in spring training. He's played in left field with Carlos Quentin out for the next couple of weeks, and could carry a bat the oft-confusing Bob Melvin can't ignore much longer. In the minors in 2006, he hit .323 with 26 HR and 81 RBI in only 98 games. In deeper leagues, he's definitely worth a grab for the next couple of weeks, and may only be a long-term injury away from a Dan Uggla-like season.
