Stops in Sugar Land Texas and Puerto culminated in a minor league deal with the resurgent Cleveland Indians.  It wasn’t long ago that Scott Kazmir was all but written off from the baseball world. Thankfully the first-year independent Sugar Land Skeeters thought enough to give him an opportunity when no one else would.  At 29 years old Kazmir still has lots of career left and being left-handed he has many options available. Even if a role as starter does not pan out, he can be the first lefty out of the pen, a middle-relief guy or even a LOOGY (or Lefty One-Out GuY). Regardless, with the work he’s put in over the past year he’s finally getting his due.  Even before his appearance on Sunday, Terry Francona had nothing but good things to say about Kazmir via Paul Hoynes of The Plain Dealer;  "He's looked so good it's scary," said Francona. "I wish we could bottle it right now for the season."  On Sunday, Kazmir pitched two scoreless innings, gave up one hit and struck out one. Overall he faced seven batters, induced two groundball outs and in nine totals pitches threw nine strikes (courtesy of MLB.com). It’s only one appearance and it’s spring training but every time Kazmir toes the rubber it’s a small victory. Devon is the Founder and Executive Director of The GM's Perspective.
