Found April 18, 2014 on Phillies Nation:
Tyler Chatwood was a second round pick for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2008. The 6’0 righty made his MLB debut in 2011 with the Angels as a 21-year old. Chatwood was acquired by the Rockies prior to the 2012 season in exchange for catcher Chris Ianetta. Chatwood had somewhat of a break-out campaign last season, posting a career-low 3.15 ERA. The improvement can be found in two peripheral stats: Chatwood was able to reduce his HR/9 IP to 0.40, raising his groundball rate, while also reducing his walk rate by over a full walk per 9 IP. Chatwood relies heavily (75.7%) on his fastball and has transitioned from a curveball to a slider as his go-to off-speed pitch. Chatwood’s fastball averages a brisk 93 MPH and comes to the plate after a sort-of herky, jerky delivery. Before Chatwood breaks his hands to come to the plate, he does what I can only describe as a very slight pump fake with his elbow toward center field. It does not distract from the hitter. Chatwood comes almost exa...

Albert Pujols’ 500th home run will be an achievement worthy of our attention

If you learned to love baseball in the 1980′s and early 1990′s such as myself, than you’ll remember the days when 35 home runs was enough to lead either league, and that the 54 homers hit by Cecil Fielder in 1991 was a very big deal. Regardless of who’s at fault, the days of low-numbered, long-ball champions are gone, and because of the PED-era, nobody will ever approach...

Albert Pujols Approaches 500 HRs… And Nobody Cares

Sometimes you read a piece and it says everything you feel. Bob Nightengale does just that with an article from the USA Today on Albert Pujols and his pending milestone 500th homerun. The reason the Angels were able to justify (at least to themselves) that Albert was worth the 240 million dollar contract they offered was that they were going to get one of the all-time greats, yes...

Mike Trout is promoting Marlon Wayans movies, for some reason

When it comes to baseball, Mike Trout is great at just about everything. Sure, you can quibble about his arm strength, but that’s about it. Off the field, however, Trout has a lot of work to do. By all accounts he is a genial, upstanding fellow, but it turns out that he isn’t exactly a cinephile. Go see my boy @marlonwayans hilarious movie #ahauntedhouse2 in theaters TONIGHT...

Angels Beat A's In Extras On Chris Iannetta Walkoff Homerun

Tyler Skaggs had one tough inning, a four-run fourth, which looked to doom the Angels to a sweep at home, by division rivals Oakland on Wednesday night, but if you've been watching this latest home-stand, you'll know that it's their new "thing" to tie games up in late innings, and send them to extras. Tonight was, in fact, the fourth extra inning game on this...

Mike Trout did something for the first time on Saturday

Mike Trout has achieved a lot for someone who has had only two full seasons in the Major Leagues. He’s led the league in runs twice, and led once each in stolen bases and walks while lapping his competition in terms of WAR. But on Saturday afternoon against the Tigers, Trout achieved something he had never done in 352 career games. He struck out four times, earning the golden...

Second-guessing Scioscia – Week 3 ☆

Welcome to Second-Guessing Scioscia! As you might have surmised, it is a look back at some of the questionable decisions that Mike Scioscia made in the last week. This isn’t because we dislike Scioscia, in fact, MWAH is officially pro-Scioscia. However, we do realize that Scioscia is not infallible and hope to use this series to bring light to the decisions in which Scioscia...

Boxscore Breakdown Game #15: Disaster Averted – Angels 5, Athletics 4

Another sweep at home at the hands of an AL West foe seemed like a looming disaster for the Angels, but they managed to battle back and salvage some pride and keep their record in the realm of respectability. Now if they could just find a way to do that without going to extra innings, that would be great. This last week has led to me racking up a pretty big sleep deficit. Run Expectancy...

FOE FODDER - Detroit Edition

By Adam Dodge, AngelsWin.com Senior Columnist - Following the Angels' thrilling series with Oakland Athletics, one of the oddest we've seen in quite some time, in which the Angels played three 1-run games, giving two of them away before stealing the finale, they embark on their second road trip of the season. Series Preview: Angels vs. Tigers vs. Dead Horses

This is great, the Angels get to face the Tigers! I’m so excited for every columnist in America to rehash the Mike Trout-Miguel Cabrera AL MVP debate. Right or wrong, it happened. TWICE. It’s over. Let’s live in the now. Let’s leave that poor dead horse alone and instead focus on the continued hand-wringing over the Angels bullpen. HISTORY LESSON At no point in their all...
