With Spring Training well underway, it's time for one of our favorite things in all the world: Season Previews. Five years ago, they began as a semi-serious analysis and ended up as half-assed haiku. We're just gonna go with what we know. We'll begin our preview of the American League West (and the American League in general) by taking a nice long look at the 2012 Texas Rangers.

Check out Yu Darvish
We call him "Whirling Darvish"

Rangers send De La Cruz back to Cleveland

Left-hander Kelvin De La Cruz, who the Texas Rangers acquired from Cleveland last month for cash considerations, was traded back to the Indians Thursday for cash considerations. Earlier Thursday the club had reassigned De La Cruz to their Double-A spring training camp in Surprise, Ariz. De La Cruz, who was a starter while with the Cleveland organization, had been working as a reliever...

C.J. Wilson Pranks Mike Napoli by Tweeting Former Teammate's Phone Number

Mike Napoli may not be happy about his phone number being used in a prank. C.J. Nolan Ryan Says Military Impacted his Mets Development

The gang over at the Kult of Mets Personalities scored a great guest, Hall of Famer and current owner of the Texas Rangers, Nolan Ryan. Of course, we all know that Ryan started his career with the Mets. In five seasons he was 29-38 with a 3.58 ERA. The deal that sent Ryan to California for Jim Fregosi is undoubtedly the worst trade in franchise history. So what did the Mets do...

Rangers Martin Perez Is Just Fine

Prospect followers, please stop panicking over the demise of Texas Rangers pitching prospect Martin Perez. He will be fine. After seeing him face off against arguably the best pitcher on the planet in Dodgers Clayton Kershaw, my first in person look at Perez was an impressive one. Yes, he needs more seasoning at the Minor League level, but he should. As he approaches legal age, Perez...

Holland pitches 4 scoreless innings for Rangers

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A split-squad game meant Julio Borbon got a chance to prove what he can do. Borbon batted second for the Texas Rangers on Saturday while Elvis Andrus was moved up to leadoff. With regular leadoff hitter Ian Kinsler with the other half of the Rangers in Surprise, Ariz., Borbon was able to thrive at the top of the order between Andrus and Josh Hamilton during a 12...

Young gives Rangers edge at DH in AL West

The American League West certainly boasts some of the most versatile designated hitters in the game. Texas has Michael Young, who has started at all four infield positions. Los Angeles designated hitter Bobby Abreu was an All-Star outfielder and Seattle will use its catcher of the future Jesus Montero at designated hitter. Then there's Oakland, where Manny Ramirez and his Hall...

Darvish works on mechanics

Yesterday, Texas Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux spent some extra time in the bullpen with Yu Darvish. The reason is that Maddux has learned that Darvish has thrown primarily out of the stretch over the years so the team would like to get him throwing from the windup. Good thing is the team’s not making it mandatory as Maddux believes pitching from the stretch is most important...

C.J. Wilson pranks Mike Napoli by tweeting his cell phone number

C.J. Wilson must have been feeling pretty saucy on Saturday, because he decided to prank his former catcher Mike Napoli. Wilson sent a tweet with his supposed new phone number, telling Napoli to call him. Wilson knew most people would figure the phone number was sent by accident — a message intended to be private — and that they would probably call thinking it was Wilson...

Rangers trade De La Cruz back to Cleveland

The Texas Rangers have traded Kelvin De La Cruz back to Cleveland, less than a month after acquiring the left-handed minor league pitcher from the Indians. De La Cruz was sent back to Cleveland on Thursday for cash considerations, the same way he had been acquired Feb. 21 by the Rangers. Cleveland had designated the 23-year-old De La Cruz for assignment on Feb. 14 to make room...

Cubs starter Jeff Samardzija retired his first nine batters before Elvis Andrus singled leading off the fourth and scored on Josh Hamilton...

Prospects Will Break Your Heart: My Dinner with Darvish by Jason Parks

I don’t consider myself a sportswriter. That shouldn’t be taken as a statement of superiority over actual sportswriters; rather, it’s separation, because I don’t feel what I contribute should be compared to what they do. I consider myself a scout first and a writer second, and I’m liberal with the definition of the latter, making the following story all the more difficult...
