It’s been a while since we’ve had a sobering “this is how bad we got” season review. Enter Brent Lillibridge. When the Red Sox traded Kevin Youkilis back in June, the general feeling was that they just didn’t get enough back. Even if Youkilis was clearly on the outs thanks to Bobby Valentine’s management style [...]

MLB News: Indians DFA Rafael Perez, re-instate Nick Hagadone

The Cleveland Indians announced a minor shuffling of their only true strength today, reinstating left-handed relief pitcher Nick Hagadone to the 40-man roster. To make room for the hard-throwing 26-year old, the team designated the oft-injured Rafael Perez for assignment. After appearing in 70 and 71 games, respectively through 2010 and 2011, Perez pitched in only eight games in...

On Talent, Perception, and Brent Lillibridge

In his first go-round with the White Sox in 2009, Brent Lillibridge wasn’t good, and that September he turned 26. Lillibridge knew he needed to make changes, and his coaches knew he needed to make changes, and so that offseason Lillibridge re-tooled his swing. In the minors, in 2010, he was more or less the same as he was in 2009. In the majors, in 2010, he was a little better...

MLB News: Lofton, Alomar Jr, Mesa and Franco make 2013 HOF ballot

In what is another sign of the Indians’ heyday of the mid-90s being a distant memory, several members of the teams to make it to the 1995 and 1997 World Series have been named to the latest release of the MLB Hall of Fame ballot. Kenny Lofton, Sandy Alomar Jr., Julio Franco and Jose Mesa appear on Hall of Fame ballot for the first time. #indianselite. — paul hoynes (@hoynsie...

Indians part ways with reliever Perez

The Cleveland Indians designated reliever Rafael Perez for assignment on Wednesday. Perez battled shoulder problems this season and had surgery in September. The left-hander pitched in just eight games for the Indians in 2012, none after April. He had pitched in 70 or more games in three of the previous four seasons. Perez has a career record of 21-12 with a 3.66 ERA.

Indians reinstate LHP Nick Hagadone to roster

CLEVELAND (AP) -- The Indians have reinstated left-hander Nick Hagadone to the 40-man roster and designated lefty Rafael Perez for assignment. Hagadone appeared in 27 games before his season ended when he lost his temper and broke his left arm after a bad outing against Boston on July 6. The Indians optioned him to the minors and placed him on the suspended list. He filed a grievance...

A New Era in Left Handers

An era came to the end in the bullpen today as the Cleveland Indians released left handed reliever Rafael Perez to make room on the 40 man roster for Nick Hagadone. Hagadone had been on the minor league ineligible list since breaking his hand during the middle of the 2012 season. The move is interesting as it was unnecessary. Going into the offseason it seemed the Indians were going...

OhioMediaWatch: STO sale rumors re-surfacing (again)

If you don’t follow OhioMediaWatch on Twitter, you are missing out on one of the most mysterious and accurate sources in Cleveland media. Tonight the Twitter account seemed to be making a lot of noise with rumor and speculation which could mean the long-rumored sale of Sports Time Ohio might finally be coming. WFNY sources had also indicated as far back as a year ago that a sale...

Buffalo Bisons Unveil Their New Look (Logo History)

Before 2008, the Bisons were an affiliate of the Cleveland Indians and donned this look: In my personal opinion, it was creepy. I did enjoy how the “Bisons” script looked like that old style of post card, however it didn’t make up for how much is going on with this logo (probably would have been better without the sand and the plate) Then the Mets came to town, and the logo...

Red Sox Trade Pitcher Zach Stewart to Pirates for Player to Be Named Later

The big news swirling around the Red Sox is their reported interest in several free agents. However, the team did make a minor trade on Wednesday. The Red Sox announced that they have traded pitcher Zach Stewart to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for a player to be named later. Stewart, who was acquired along with Brent Lillibridge in the deal that sent Kevin Youkilis to the White...

Indian Killer: Signing Kevin Youkilis

Earlier this offseason we discussed a few options the Indians had in this year's free agent market and we sit today with just one of those options signed by another team (Melky Cabrera to the Blue Jays) and none of the Indians major holes filled. Mike Aviles and Yan Gomes (acquired in the Esmil Rogers trade) look to take Lou Marson and Brent Lillibridge's places on the roster...

Red Sox Trade Zach Stewart to Pirates For PTBNL

One week after being designated for assignment, the lone remaining player from the Kevin Youkilis trade, Zach Stewart, has been traded by the Boston Red Sox to the Pittsburgh Pirates for a player-to-be-named-later. Here's the release from the Red Sox: BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today traded right-handed pitcher Zach Stewart to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for...
