Mariners-saunders-leaps
The Condor – Michael Saunders It has been a mighty impressive last 7 games for the kid they call the Condor.  Michael Saunders is starting to look like the player that batted so well in the leadoff spot for the Seattle Mariners at the beginning of the 2013 campaign. Speed kills and never slumps is how the saying goes and Michael used that speed to steal yet another base last week.  He easily leads the team with 13 base larcenies for the year.   It’s a shame the Mariners don’t run more often.  They have a number of guys including Michael who are close to perfecting this craft. Over the past week Mr. Saunders has hit an impressive .364 (8 for 22) and also taken the walk 4 additional times giving him an on-base percentage of .462. Saunders has hit an impressive .364 (8 for 22) That’s good stuff for a guy batting in any spot in the lineup. What might be even more impressive about Michael’s batting numbers for the week are his uncanny ability to flash some extra base power.  5 of his 8 hits this week were doubles and 1 was a triple which shows Michael still has no problem using that great speed of his after making contact. The power combined with the ability to reach base gives Saunders a whopping 1.143 Ops for the week. All of that extra base power allowed Michael to drive in 4 runs on the week as well. Despite all Michael has gone through to re-gain his stroke the one thing that has never wavered is his great defense. He uses that same great speed to run down fly balls like a kid chasing butterflies. Saunders has that unique ability in the outfield to make the difficult plays look routine and the routine plays like he’s having a nap out there.  It’s worth nothing that Saunders has committed just one error all year as a result. It was a great week for Michael. Here’s to one more this week and a whole lot next year. Check out some Saunders Vids from the past month. 9/23 Saunders goes back-to-back with Franklin Gutierrez in the eighth, crushing a solo shot to right to tie the game at 5. Video 9/18 Saunders cranks an RBI double to right field, his second of the game, giving the Mariners a 5-0 lead in the eighth inning. Video 8/23 Saunders makes a great running catch at the wall to rob Mark Trumbo of an extra-base hit in the sixth inning. Smoak Bomb There can be a lot said about Justin Smoak, and most of it ever since his arrival in Seattle has been negative. Well it at least quells the argument until next year at least. The Mariners...

At the time the injury was sustained, it wasn't clear if it would keep Miller out for the remainder of the season. This wasn't to be the case, as Miller rejoined the Mariners lineup for yesterday's 4-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. Miller was able to return to...
