The Seattle Mariners threw a combined no-hitter in their 1-0 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night, just a week after Johan Santana no-hit the Cardinals at Citi Field for the first no-no in Mets history. The combined no-hitter is the first since the Houston Astros no-hit the Yankees on June 11, 2003 in a game started by Roy Oswalt, who left after one inning.

Tonight's no-hitter was started by Kevin Millwood, who left after the sixth inning with soreness in his right groin. It's Millwood's second career no-hitter, with the first coming on April 27, 2003 when he was a member of the Philadelphia Phillies. The relievers to follow Millwood in tonight's game were Charlie Furbush, Stephen Pryor, Lucas Luetge, Brandon League, and Tom Wilhelmson.

As what seemingly happens in all no-hitters, the Mariners were aided by a fortunate call. Charlie Furbush threw a ball away on a hit by Elian Herrera in the seventh inning, and the play was ruled a two-base error on Furbush as opposed to a hit and a one-base error. In the ninth, Mariners shortstop Brendan Ryan nailed Dee Gordon by half a step at first base on a weak-hit grounder. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly argued the call to no avail.

The combined no-hitter is just the third in Mariners history, following Randy Johnson's first no-hitter in 1990 and Chris Bosio's gem in 1993. Oddly enough, the Mariners were on the other end of this situation just seven weeks ago, when Philip Humber threw a perfect game against Seattle. This was also the fourth no-hitter in the last three seasons to end with a 1-0 score, following Roy Halladay's perfect game against the Marlins in 2010, Edwin Jackson's interleague no-hitter against the Rays in 2010, and Francisco Liriano's 2011 no-hitter against the White Sox.

This is also the fifth no-hitter to take place in interleague play, with the last one being the aforementioned Jackson no-hitter against the Rays. Perhaps ironically, the last combined no-hitter was also an interleague matchup. The six pitchers ued in a no-hitter ties the record set in the 2003 Astros no-hitter as well.
