Indians Baseball Insider:
Ohio State Buckeyes
Player of the Game: Ubaldo Jimenez (6 Inn, 3 H, 1 ER 1 BB / 8 SO)
It was a nail biter in the heart of Motown Saturday night, as the Tribe snuck by their Central Division rival Detroit Tigers, 7-6. What looked to be an easy win against ace Justin Verlander with Cleveland up 6-1 in the seventh inning, ultimately fell apart late by the Indians bullpen.
Relievers Nick Hagadone and Cody Allen combined to pitch just one inning, giving up four earned runs before closer Chris Perez pushed fans to the edge of their seats in the ninth. Pure Rage would get the job done despite giving up just one unearned run to record his sixth save of the season.
The talk of the game though was all about Cleveland starter Ubaldo Jimenez. For his third straight start, Jimenez (3-2, 5.55 ERA) looked sharp tossing six innings of three hit ball, yielding just one run, one walk and eight strikeouts.

A few weeks ago in one of my FanGraphs chats, I was asked who had a better chance of rediscovering his old self, between Scott Kazmir and Ubaldo Jimenez. I made the same sort of crack any one of us would’ve made at the time, like how you’d respond to the idea of Rich Harden or Nick Johnson staying healthy. Kazmir or Jimenez getting on track was practically unthinkable, or so...
Player of the Game
With his third straight solid start, Ubaldo Jimenez gets the award for tonight. Even when he did not hit his spots, his fastball had so much movement that it fooled the hitters anyway. Six strong innings is all the offense needed to effectively win the game. It could not have come at a better time as the Indians inch closer to the top spot in the A.L. Central...
DETROIT -- Yes, Tigers fans, that was really Justin Verlander on the mound Saturday night.
He may have looked like Jamie Moyer or late-career Frank Tanana, but it was the Tigers ace trying to survive a game without his legendary fastball. It didn't go well.
Verlander did strike out seven batters in his five innings mostly with his changeup and curveball but the lack of a...
It was definitely a Happy Mother’s Day at our house. Hope it was at yours as well. This week, we’re looking back at the gems the Cardinals’ pitched against the Rockies this weekend, a marquee outfielder who can’t get going, and more. Here we go:

How do you pick which start was more impressive? I finally had to choose Miller’s...
Despite the loss on Saturday, Justin Verlander is off to arguably the best start of his career, with an ERA under two, an FIP just barely over two, while striking out ten batters per nine innings. Despite those results, much has been made about Justin Verlander’s velocity dip so far this season. As a potential leading indicator of injury or declined performance, should Tigers fans be worried?
Around The Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.
NOTE: All performances from the Akron Aeros game are through seven innings. The game was suspended at that point due to rain tied at 3-3.

Seven games. Six wins. I don't know about you, but I’ll take that kind of week any day.
With another outstanding week, the Cleveland Indians are now currently tied atop the standings of the American League Central with a 20-15 record. The Tribe has now won 15 of their past 20 games, and the wins have come in a variety of ways.

DETROIT -- Some wins are easily defined. Not Saturday night.Much went into the Indians 7-6 victory over the Tigers and Justin Verlander. From starting pitching to hustle plays to scrapping against (another) Cy Young winner to getting the final out against the defending American League MVP, the Indians earned this win.Cleveland took an early 6-1 lead, forced Verlander out of the game...
DETROIT (AP) -- Ubaldo Jimenez outpitched Justin Verlander, and Cleveland's Chris Perez got Miguel Cabrera to hit a game-ending groundout with two on to preserve the Indians' 7-6 win over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night. Verlander (4-3) was erratic early, allowing three runs in the first two innings. He settled a bit after that, but the Indians took a 6-1 lead before...
With a 10-4 win in the opener of their weekend series with the Indians on Friday night in Detroit, the Tigers handed Cleveland a sharp dose of reality and snapped the Tribe’s four-game winning streak in the process. Led by starter Max Scherzer and resident Detroit sluggers Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder, the Tigers
Each Monday, good or bad, we’ll look back at the biggest theme of the week that was for the Detroit Tigers.
Though the Detroit Tigers dropped two closely contested games to the Washington Nationals over the week, the biggest story was plucky play of a Central Division rival over the weekend, who made an early season statement by winning two of three games in the Motor City.
Bucholz has been fantastic so far.
Well, he's been good enough to be considered 2nd in the major leagues behind Annibal Sanchez in the Wins Above Replacement (WAR) category, which measures how valuable a pitcher has been to his team, according to the Herald. He also stacks up well against the best pitchers in the majors in just about every other statistical category. He has...
With rounds two and three in the books, here’s how I would re-draft the first round considering how the 2013 season has played out thus far.Note: All stats end with games finished on Thursday, May 9.12. Felix Hernandez, SP, SEALike Justin Verlander, Felix has been one of the first pitchers taken over the last four years. The main thing holding him back, however, has been run support...
