Selig-takes-questions
Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig told reporters that he's reviewing the megadeal between the Miami Marlins and Toronto Blue Jays. Selig said on the final day of the owners' meetings that the trade has yet to be officially been presented to him, but he said the matter is under review. The Blue Jays are set to acquire shortstop Jose Reyes, pitchers Mark Buehrle and Josh Johnson, catcher John Buck and utility player Emilio Bonafacio for Yunel Escobar and a number of the Toronto's top prospects. The swap is pending the completion of physicals.

Miami Mayor Writes Letter to Bud Selig Asking Him to ‘Look At’ Marlins Mega-Trade

The Marlins are not only the laughingstock of baseball right now, but people in high places aren’t too fond of the team, either. On Thursday, Miami mayor Tomas Regalado sent a letter to Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig, imploring him to “look at” the pending Marlins-Blue Jays mega-trade, and “act in the best interests” of the people of Miami. The letter specifically...

Selig Should Void The Trade

WHAT ARE MARLINS FANS TELLING YOU, BUD? The biggest problem I’ve had with Commissioner Bud Selig is he was an owner, but even after divesting himself of the Milwaukee Brewers, he remained an owner at heart. He’s a former owner paid by the owners, so, where do his loyalties lie? It will never happen without government intervention, but the best way for baseball to be run is have...

2013 Blue Jays Projections: Melky Cabrera

In somewhat of a surprise move, the Toronto Blue Jays have reportedly inked outfielder Melky Cabrera to a two-year, $16M deal. Now finished with his 50-game suspension for PED use, questions remain about his performance going forward, but it's skill related stats -- not questions about strenght/endurance -- that keep me optimistic. Melky Cabrera - OF - TOR 2013 Age: 28...

Q&A: Jake Marisnick, Marlins OF Prospect

The Miami Marlins acquired a lot of young talent in last night’s reported multi-player trade with Toronto. The most intriguing prospect heading south is 21-year-old centerfielder Jake Marisnick. Three years into his professional career, he has been more projection than production. The third-round draft pick logged a .719 OPS this season between high-A Dunedin and Double-A New Hampshire...

Free-Agent Melky Cabrera Signs Two-Year Deal With Toronto Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays are stacking up for the upcoming season. Today it was reported that the Jays signed free-agent OF Melky Cabrera, who was suspended on August 15 for violating MLB's performance-enhancing drug rules, to a two-year deal worth $16 million. Just a few days after the Blue Jays pulled off a mega-trade with the Miami Marlins, which sent P Josh Johnson, P Mark Buehrle...

MLB Rumors: How Long Until Miami Marlins Trade Ricky Nolasco To Complete Latest Fire Sale?

The Miami Marlins are conducting another one of their infamously appalling fire sales, having already traded away half their team during the 2012 MLB season, with basically the rest going to the Toronto Blue Jays this week. With very few players remaining on the team who even makes more than six figures per year, it seems as if it is only a matter of time before they trade their...

Miami Marlins All-Fire Sale Team

The Miami Marlins didn’t have a good first year. Even with a new stadium, a new name, new unis, it was still the same old Marlins as it related to...

Miami Marlins: Irrelevant Again

The Miami Marlins made a big splash last offseason by bringing in Ozzie Guillen as manager and signing big name free agents Jose Reyes, Heath Bell and Mark Buehrle. Needless to say all those players are now not a part of the Marlins. In a clear move to dump salary, the Marlins traded away Reyes, Buehrle and Josh Johnson to the Toronto Blue Jays for basically nothing. For a team...

Nolan Ryan Has No Business Doing Comedy

As Jamie Moyer turns 50 on Sunday, there are bound to be plenty of "dude is so old" posts out there on the internets. So, with that in mind, I'm going to keep this one brief. Moyer is so old he's the only active Major Leaguer who can tell you where he was when John F. Kennedy was assassinated. He's also so old that he's pitched in 50 different big league...

Report: Melky Cabrera Signs Two-Year, $16 Million Deal With Toronto Blue Jays

The big-spending Blue Jays aren’t done yet. Toronto has reportedly signed outfielder Melky Cabrera to a two-year, $16 million deal, snatching up one of the more productive outfielders available on the market. Cabrera, of course, was having a huge season for the San Francisco Giants in 2012 before testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs and missing the season’s final...

Melky Cabrera Follows Marlins to Toronto

During the 2012 regular season, Blue Jays outfielders combined to be worth 4.6 WAR, which was tied for the sixth-lowest total in baseball. Nearly all of that came from Jose Bautista, who was terrific and then injured. The Blue Jays have some young and talented outfielders in-house, and if they were rebuilding, they might guarantee those players some time. But this week’s mega-trade...

Blue Jays Rumors: Toronto Targeting One More Starting Pitcher

The Toronto Blue Jays added a pair of frontline starting pitchers, Josh Johnson and Mark Buehrle, in their blockbuster trade with the Miami Marlins this week, but the team still want one more starter, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. On #BlueJays: Anything is possible, but team did not get J. Johnson to flip him. Reality is, Jays still need - and want - one more starter...

What if the Angels pulled off a Marlins-style fire sale trade?

The baseball world is still frothing with rage over the latest and greatest Marlins fire sale trade.  Actually, calling it a fire sale trade isn't fair, it is really more of a raging inferno sale trade what with them dumping their two biggest free agent purchases from the off-season before along with pretty much every other player on their roster making even a little bit of...

Tonight: Jose Bautista

Jose Bautista on Fox Sports Tonight talking with Rob and Amy about his wrist and the possible trade of Melky Cabrera.

Greenbacks and Shams

The biggest news this week was not Cubs-related.  The Miami Marlins, one year after splurging on marquee free agents and opening up their new stadium, underwent a major fire sale with the Toronto Blue Jays.  The trade is expected to be completed by Monday, but in the meantime, nobody wanted to talk to Jeffrey Loria (who is the Devil), the National League Central and West divisions...
