Burning River Baseball:
Philadelphia Phillies (12-14) at Cleveland Indians (?-?)
Series 9, Games 24 and 25
Progressive Field, Cleveland: 1.061, Hitters park
Heading into this season, the Phillies are caught in an in-between state and like the Indians, should rebuild in my opinion. No matter what happened last year, the presence of Hamels, Halladay and Lee makes them a dangerous team. After all, we all know that pitching wins. Much like the Yankees, these are not the typical Phillies that we grew up with. Although most of their star players are still on the 25 man roster, they are older and more prone to injury. Halladay is 35. Lee is 34. Ryan Howard is 33 and had a terrible 2012 season. Jimmy Rollins is 34. Chase Utley is 34, and hasn't played more than 115 games in the last three seasons. Carlos Ruiz is 34. Even new third baseman Michael Young is anything but for a professional athlete, at 36. None of their offensive players are elite at his position anymore, but the ...
BEST OF MAXIM
There are only a few elite aces in the majors like Cliff Lee of the Philadelphia Phillies. What other divisional hurlers are in that group?
TAL’S HANDY STATS
I will publish the 2013 ERA for both the NL East and the MLB 5 periodically. The number of games played by the Phillies is in the headline at the end.

After three straight promising starts Roy Halladay turned in another clunker Tuesday night. In allowing eight runs on nine hits and two walks, Halladay finished April with a 6.75 ERA, 5.73 FIP and a ghastly 2.25 HR/9. He cost the Phillies 0.3 WAR last month.
MLB Network noted this morning that Halladay’s 5.59 ERA over the last calendar year (April 30, 2012 to April 30, 2013) is...
Photo: Philliedelphia/Lindsey Crew Yesterday was completely disgusting. Losing 14-2 just about explains itself. The Phillies' pitching got creamed and their offense was unable to come remotely close. The Indians are hot right now. They've scored 33 runs in their last three games and desimated Roy Halladay last night. Tonight the...
It took more time than he would have liked, but Roy Halladay has gotten back to the level at which he's accustomed to pitching.
That's good news for a Philadelphia Phillies team which manager Charlie Manuel believes is starting to click.
Philadelphia seeks a fourth straight victory as it visits the Cleveland Indians to open a two-game interleague series Tuesday night.

Behind Cliff Lee, the Phillies will look for redemption on Wednesday after being embarrassed by the Indians last night to the tune of a 14-2 score. The Indians...
After the artist formerly known as Roy Halladay gave up an eight-spot in less than four innings of work, I was able to focus my undivided attention to the NBA and NHL playoffs. OK, so since I have two televisions in my living room with the NBA on one and the NHL on the other, [...]The post The 5 Differences Between The NBA And NHL Playoffs appeared first on The Sports Fan Journal.
Tim Hudson won his 200th game on Tuesday night against the Washington Nationals, becoming just the 110th pitcher in MLB history to reach the milestone. On the same evening, Roy Halladay allowed 8 earned runs (3 HR) to the Cleveland Indians in 3.67 IP at Progressive Field.
Is Tim Hudson the most underrated pitcher in the 21st century? Has the Atlanta Braves ace pitched to the level...
Final: Phillies 2, Indians 14.

I'm starting to think that the Drew Carey Show's theme song "Cleveland Rocks", created in 1997 for the hit sitcom, was meant just for tonight's game at Progressive Field 16 years later. Without a doubt, the Indians rocked Roy Halladay in his outing...

Tonight the Indians face an old friend.Five years ago, lefty Cliff Lee was enjoying a career season with the Indians and broke through as one of the games best pitchers when he won the 2008 American League Cy Young award. But less than a year after winning the award ,the Indians traded him to the Philadelphia Phillies for a package of four prospects...
