Expectations remain high for the Rays pitching staff this season. Unfortunately, the orioles offense got the best of them, specifically first baseman Chris Davis. Davis went 5-for-11 with four runs scored, 11 RBI, and three home runs (one in each game). One of those homers was a three-run shot in game one of the series that put the Orioles ahead in the seventh inning for good. The Rays would take game two Wednesday thanks to their hitting. Shelly Duncan and Ben Zobrist knocked in five runs between the two. But with a tie game in the bottom of the ninth, Matt Joyce would hit a walk-off home run to win it for the Rays 8-7. Baltimore would win the final game of the series the same way they won the first, Chris Davis. He would knock in four runs off Rays pitcher Roberto Hernandez, leading to a 6-3 victory and take the series from Tampa Bay 2-1. Defending American League Cy Young Award winner David Price did not have his usual stuff on opening night. He went six innings giving up two runs, two walks, and only four strikeouts. As a unit, the Rays bullpen surrendered nine runs throughout the series. The Rays will open a three game series at home tomorrow against the Indians.
