Weeks back, the Tampa Bay rays found themselves in a tough hole to climb out of to stay in a wild card spot. After sweeping the Red Sox in Boston, they have increased their winning streak to seven games and are controlling what they can: Themselves.

The Rays were able to put together some offense at Fenway Park as the pitching was dominant as usual. The Rays scored nine runs over the two games in Boston. Jeff Keppinger, Carlos Peña, and Ben Francisco all homered in the series but it was David Price who stole the show.

Price pitched a complete game Tuesday night. He struck out 13 and gave up two runs on seven hits. Wednesday night, it took a collective effort by the pitching staff after starter Alex Cobb went just five innings and gave way to five different pitchers. Fernando Rodney picked up his 45th save of the season, moving him to three back behind Orioles’ Jim Johnson.

The Rays still sit three games back of the final wild card spot with seven games left to play. They play the Chicago White Sox in a four game series beginning on Thursday.
