Two of the four ten win teams in the National League will do battle this week in Los Angeles, as the Braves continue a west coast road trip against the Dodgers. The Braves have had a more difficult start to their schedule than the Dodgers, though neither teams have exactly played an All-Star schedule. The Braves have played a home and home with the Mets, hosted the Brewers, and visited Houston and Arizona. The Dodgers have played seven (SEVEN!!!) against the Padres, hosted Pittsburgh, and traveled to Milwaukee and Houston.  Atlanta's offense has completely exploded over the last week, but unlike the Dodgers, they lack a star powering the offense. Despite scoring 23 more runs on the season, the Braves have a team OPS only 21 points higher than the Braves. The Braves only have one regular with an OPS above .900, Jason Heyward at .904. The Dodgers are led by Matt Kemp and his 1.467 OPS, and Andre Ethier and his .923 OPS are helping the team a lot. Kemp has nine homers and Ethier h...

Colletti hopes to get Ethier extension

General Manager Ned Colletti said he wants to explore the possibility of signing Andre Ethier to a contract extension soon after the Dodgers new owners take over the club next week. "I've always been inclined to keep him," Colletti said. "His start certainly hasn't hurt." Ethier, who will be eligible for free agency when his one-year, 10.95-million...

Uggla’s workout (in 2009)

I manage a few Facebook pages, and a page called Dan Uggla's Beautiful Arms just liked a now-defunct page. I scrolled down their page and saw this video, which of course, I had to share with y'all immediately... "The biggest thing in sports these days is gettin' to where all these athletes are just gettin' bigger and stronger and faster, and that's the thing...

Atlanta Braves' bats coming alive

The Braves were leading the National League with 87 runs scored at the start of the day Sunday. After scoring only 10 runs in their first four games -- all losses -- the Braves have scored 81 runs through Sunday's 6-4 loss to the Diamondbacks. How'd this happen? Some of it is third baseman Chipper Jones being back; his switch-hitting ability gives manager Fredi Gonzalez...

Though it's early, Dodgers thinking playoffs

LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers' bench coach Trey Hillman is regarded as one of the most knowledgeable men in pro baseball. As manager of the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters, he led his team to three championships in 2006: The Pacific League crown; the Japanese World Series and the Asia Series. Back in the States for the 2008 season as manager of hapless Kansas City, he spent two-plus years...

Kemp homers again as Dodgers keep winning

James Loney and Matt Kemp homered and Clayton Kershaw earned his first win as the Dodgers improved to a National League-best 12-3 with a 5-1 win over Houston. After Loney hit a solo homer in the second inning, Kemp crushed a two-run shot with two outs in the sixth for his ninth home run. Kershaw (1-0) struck out nine over seven scoreless innings, allowing three...

Braves demote Jair Jurrjens to AAA

After last night's 7-2 loss to the Dodgers, the Braves demoted starting pitcher Jair Jurrjens to AAA Gwinnett. Jurrjens, who was an All-Star last season after a fantastic first half of the season, just hasn't been good since the break last year. In the second half of last season, he made just seven starts while dealing with a knee injury, and had a 5.88 ERA in 41 1/3 innings...

GIFcap: James Loney Homers & Matt Kemp Makes Fun Of Him

Matt Kemp has the best reaction of the day to James Loney’s homer, laughing at the event, looking back at the dugout, like, “Holy ****, are we recording this?!&#

Jones homers, Braves beat Dodgers in ninth

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Chipper Jones received a few modest gifts from teammates before taking the field on his 40th birthday and celebrated it the best way possible -- with a home run. Martin Prado wouldn't let it be wasted. Prado had two RBIs including a run-scoring triple in the ninth inning, and the Atlanta Braves beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 on Tuesday night. "Martin...

Struggling Jurrjens optioned to Triple-A

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The Atlanta Braves have optioned struggling pitcher Jair Jurrjens to Triple-A Gwinnett after the 2011 All-Star lasted only three-plus innings in a loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Jurrjens, who led the Braves with 13 wins last season despite two trips to the disabled list, is 0-2 with a 9.37 ERA in four starts. He retired only seven of the 17 batters he faced...

Delgado gives up five runs in Braves loss

PHOENIX (AP) -- Gerardo Parra hit his first career grand slam to cap a five-run second inning and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Atlanta Braves 6-4 Sunday, snapping a five-game losing streak. Atlanta had won five in a row. Ian Kennedy (3-0) posted his seventh straight win dating to last August. The Diamondbacks helped him by scoring more than two runs for the first time in four...

Dugout Digest - so, about those Dodgers...

Over the first two weeks of the MLB season, the Los Angeles Dodgers were the toast of the town. The team was 9-1 through its first ten games, though many just looked at that record as opposed to the quality of the opposition. A six game road trip concluded yesterday with a 12-0 shellacking in Houston, and the team ended the road trip with a 3-3 record, dropping them to 12-4 on...
