SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Several members of the Texas Rangers showed their support for citizens in Venezuela Saturday as the country struggles with political unrest. Venezuela natives Robinson Chirinos and Martin Perez organized a group picture of Texas players as they showed support for the country. The players held up Venezuelan flags and homemade signs. "As a fellow Venezuelan it's the right thing for us to do to show support to students and to try and bring peace," Venezuela native Elvis Andrus said. "The government and people talk about fear from this side or that side, but in the end it's all about being human beings. When you're good human beings you don't want people get killed, get shot, what's happening right now. It's about bringing that peace back and get everything the right way." The picture wasn't limited to Venezuelans either. Yu Darvish (Japan), Jose Contreras (Cuba), Jurickson Profar (Curacao) and Adrian Beltre (Dominican Republic) were also in the picture. That meant a lot to Andrus. "You can see the support that we have not just from Venezuela but from all parts," Andrus said. "The Dominican, Mexico, Japan, all those countries. Hopefully we can get the same support from the students down there." The Rangers aren't the first team to have players send their support with a picture. Detroit, Miami and Seattle players have also taken pictures.
