The San Francisco Giants lose long-relief man Guillermo Mota to a 100-game suspension. Mota has tested positive for Clenbuterol, but swears it was children’s cough medicine. Mota’s agent Adam Katz has said they will appeal the suspension.   If you’re wondering why he’s suspended so many games, it’s because Mota was suspended on November 1, 2006 for using performance-enhancing drugs. That was a 50-game suspension. Huff Is Back The Giants needed to make a move to activate Aubrey Huff, and the Mota suspension fixed that problem. Huff took Mota’s roster spot. He’s is returning from a 15-day DL trip due to anxiety. Snapped Hit Streak Angel Pagan had his 20-game hitting streak snapped last night. It was an  0-for-5 night for Pagan, against the Dodgers. The good news is it’s still early in the season, so Pagan can start a new one tonight! Next Two In LA Clayton Kershaw (2-0, 2.63) vs. Ryan Vogelsong (0-2, 3.42) Chad Billingsley (2-2, 3.19) vs. Tim Lincecum (2-2, 5.68) ~Ki...

Guillermo Mota Suspended 100 Games for PED Use

Guillermo Mota will face a 100-game suspension after testing positive for Clenbuterol, a drug that apparently has aerobic benefits, reports Jon Morosi. This is the second time Mota has been suspended for PEDs, as he served 50 games back in 2006 when he was with the New York Mets. Mota is appealing his suspension, according to Andrew Baggarly, but because he’s a second-time offender...

Giants' Mota plans to fight 100-game suspension

Clenbuterol or children's cough medicine? Either way, San Francisco Giants reliever Guillermo Mota was suspended 100 games for testing positive for Clenbuterol, according to Major League Baseball, but Mota swears it was cough medicine. Mota's agent, Adam Katz, said Mota simply took cough medicine with a tiny amount of the banned substance. Katz said the suspension is...

SF Giants Rumors: Mays Birthday, Pagan/Sandoval Record, Beat LA

The San Francisco Giants were able to salvage the home-stand by winning 2-out-3 from the Brewers. Yesterday was the living legend’s (Willie Mays) birthday. It was a great game to be in attendance and sing happy birthday to the man that once scored from first base on a base hit to left field, with no error on the play!   Hit Streak Angel Pagan has a career high 20-game hitting...

Guillermo Mota blames positive drug test on children’s cough medicine

Giants relief pitcher Guillermo Mota is facing a 100-game suspension after failing a performance-enhancing drug test for the second time in his MLB career. Since he’s not that notable of a player, we wouldn’t pay much attention to this news other than to say he’s every bit the cheater we already knew he was. But hold on a second. This guy has given us reason to address his...

Guillermo Mota suspended 100 games for PED use

Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports is reporting that San Francisco Giants reliever Guillermo Mota has been suspended 100 games for testing positive for clenbuterol. This is Mota's second suspension under the MLB's drug policy. His first suspension came after the 2006 season, when Mota was with the Mets, and sidelined him for the first 50 games of the 2007 season. Clenbuterol...

Ryan Vogelsong and Cause For Concern

Right-hander Ryan Vogelsong proved to be one of the feel-good stories of the year in 2011. The 34-year-old owned an unsightly career 5.86 ERA through 315 major-league innings with the San Francisco Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates coming into the 2011 season. He then seemingly flipped a switch and handcuffed the league with a 2.71 ERA and 3.67 FIP over 179.2 innings for the Giants and...

BP Unfiltered: Miguel Tejada Did It by Sam Miller

In fact, Melvin Mora said, he recently spoke to former Oriole Miguel Tejada, who was cut this season by the San Francisco Giants, and talked about reuniting in Baltimore. “I said, ‘Why don’t we go back to the Orioles?' And he said, ‘You want to do that?'" Mora said. “I don’t know. I guess we have to see who the general manager of the Orioles is to see...

Projecting the Series: Giants vs. Dodgers

The first Giants vs. Dodgers series of the season and it comes with even more meaning as the Dodgers are currently leading the NL West over the second place Giants.  The Giants are coming off a nine game home stand where they managed to go .500 but really didn't play well and sandwiched between series wins against the Padres and Brewers was a brutal sweep at the...

SF Giants Rumors: Sneak Past Kershaw, Lopez On Point, Injury Bug, Rubber Match

Photo Courtesy of Jesse Montellano The San Francisco Giants did something last night that they haven’t done since August 1, 2010. They beat the Dodgers ace, Clayton Kershaw. Kershaw had a lifetime record of 6-1 against the Giants with a 1.25 ERA in 12 games prior to last night’s showdown.   It took a 2-run homer off the bat of Brett Pill and a great outing by Ryan Vogelsong...

Pitching, Defense Falter in 9-1 Loss to Dodgers

…and that was the low point in the season. So far, that is. Barry Zito, to his credit, did fifth starter things — which is to say, he was good enough. Three runs in six innings. His strikeout-to-walk ratio is nearing sub-1.00 territory, but that seems like the least of the Giants’ problems right now. Brett Pill is not a left fielder. Conor Gillaspie isn’t much of a third...

Dodgers 6, Giants 2

Pinch-hitter Tony Gwynn Jr. hit a go-ahead three-run triple off Tim Lincecum, one inning after San Francisco's Nate Schierholtz ran into a critical out that helped kill a Giants' rally and the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers went on to a 6-2 victory Wednesday night. The Dodgers have won six of their past seven series at home heading into a day off Thursday before Colorado...

SF Giants Rumors: Kevin Youkilis On The Giants Radar?

Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com says the Red Sox should trade Kevin Youkilis to make way for a top prospect, Will Middlebrooks. Youkilis is scheduled to come off the 15-day DL on Monday. The Red Sox can trade Youkilis, send their top prospect back down to AAA, or move the prospect to the outfield where he has never played. With the trade rumors starting to swirl around Youkilis, and...

San Francisco Wins Battle of ’07 Multiple Draft Picks

The 2007 amateur draft was an exciting time if you were a fan of the San Diego Padres, the San Francisco Giants, the Texas Rangers or the Toronto Blue Jays. Each organization had at least five picks before the second round, thanks to supplemental picks obtained for the losses of free agents the previous winter. It’s been five years since that draft, so it’s a good time to look...
