Spring Training BP 2013 – Credit: Steven Robles – SF Giants Rumors A day after the extra inning loss, the San Francisco Giants made a flurry of roster moves. They Designated for Assignment Cole Gillespie, purchased Kensuke Tanaka‘s contract, sent Hector Sanchez to the DL (right shoulder strain), and re-called Mike Kickham. All these moves didn’t help the Giants get a win last night as they fell to the Mets 10-6. However, they still manage to score 6 runs. That’s usually enough runs at AT&T Park to get a win. Tanaka did get his first Major League hit in the game and made a great catch in left-field. Bryant-Jon Anteola of The Fresno Bee says (via Twitter) Jeff Francoeur said he signed with the Giants because of the success veteran outfielders Cody Ross and Pat Burrell had upon joining the Giants then winning a World Series. After a day of traveling, Francoeur made it in time to play in last night’s Fresno Grizzlies game. He went 1-for-4 with 2 strikeouts. The Mets are sending Zack...

Reactions To The Francoeur Signing

What do I think of the Giants signing Jeff Francoeur? I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t see it having a major impact.  I was wrong, after all, about Pat Burrell. Francoeur has had a lot of bad years and only one good one over the last half-decade or so.  He’s decent against left-handed pitching only.  He’s got mediocre defense.  I don’t see him catching the Giants magic...

Giants sign Jeff Francoeur to minor-league contract

It’s come to this for the beleaguered Giants. Signing a player that not even the Kansas City Royals wanted. The Giants and outfielder Jeff Francoeur agreed to a minor-league contract. The team hopes he can give the slumping outfield some kind of boost eventually. Easier said than done. He was DFA’ed by the Royals last month after hitting .208 with 3 homers and 13 RBI in 59 games...

Royals to let fans choose new name for Frenchy Quarter

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- With outfielder Jeff Francoeur no longer a Royal, the subject of what to do with the Frenchy Quarter section of Kauffman Stadium has come up often in the past two weeks. The Royals say they have the solution: Let the fans rename it, then promote it like the Frenchy Quarter had been since 2012. The Royals are giving fans three options: GordoNation (named for...

Sources: Giants, Francoeur reach deal

The reeling San Francisco Giants added to their depleted outfield Tuesday, reaching agreement with Jeff Francoeur, according to major-league sources.

You Mad, Bro? Salami is the Wyrd

Man, from these fans, you’d never know the Giants had won 2 World Series titles in 3 years… From the SB Nation San Francisco Giants blog McCovey Chronicles “I’ve been praying and praying for Jeff Francoeur to save the Giants I’m anticipating a 30 game winning streak starting tonight!” “Mostly, having to do with Jeff Francoeur’s stupidly spelled name. I officially...

Wheeler, Mets complete Giants sweep

Zack Wheeler used to have long talks with Sergio Romo when they were teammates in the Giants organization, and the young pitcher is good pals with Mike Kickham. None of that mattered when Wheeler took the mound at AT&T Park for the first time. He just wanted to pitch well. Wheeler threw seven sharp innings, Marlon Byrd homered again and the New York Mets completed their first...

SF Giants Rumors: Another Tough Loss, Giants Ink Jeff Francoeur

Last night was a game the San Francisco Giants desperately needed. Tim Lincecum was dealing, and struck out 11 Mets in his 7 innings of work. They went on to lose the game in the 16th inning. They had plenty of chances to score, and base-runners all over the place. They just weren’t able to cash in with a clutch hit. They’ve now lost 12 of their last 14 games, and are 6.5 games...

Jeff Francoeur Giants: Veteran outfielder signed and sent to Triple-A

The Giants have signed outfielder Jeff Francoeur to a minor-league contract, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. Following his release Sunday from Kansas City after struggling for most of the last two seasons, “Frenchy” will join Triple-A Fresno and await promotion. Francouer is just 29 but has already had a turbulent major-league career, with the Royals as the fourth team...

Report: Former Braves Phenom Jeff Francoeur Will Sign with San Francisco Giants

After being released by the Kansas City Royals, the once bright baseball future of former Atlanta Braves phenom Jeff Francoeur was looking bleak indeed. There were some rumblings that Frenchy might return to Atlanta to provide a little bench support. He may still do that, but it will be in a San Francisco Giants uniform if he does. Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com tweeted this morning that

Wheeler Shines And Byrd Homers Again As Mets Sweep Giants

WHEELER WOWS THEM AT FRISCO! Matt Cain lasted 21 minutes, 0.2 innings and 36 pitches as the Mets tagged him for three runs to take a lead in the first and escort Cain to the showers early. Daniel Murphy started the scoring off with an RBI single and John Buck followed it up with a two-run single. Cain has never left the game against the Mets without pitching at least five innings...

Marlon Byrd’s big season, Zack Wheeler’s innings, Ike Davis’ streak

The baseball season is 162 games long and that’s about how many columns I write for the site in a year. Not one of my columns is a game recap, which means there’s an awful lot of opinion pieces. Anyone who gives that many opinions in a year is going to be wrong more than once. And that’s okay. Actually the ones that go wrong are often times fascinating. Nowhere has that...

Mets 7, Giants 2

Former Giants prospect Zack Wheeler pitched seven sharp innings, Marlon Byrd homered again and the New York Mets completed their first sweep in San Francisco since 1994 with a 7-2 win Wednesday. Daniel Murphy and John Buck each had two hits and drove in two runs as the Mets won their fourth in a row, including three straight over the slumping World Series champions. The Giants have...

What Message Are Mets Sending With Matt Harvey?

The New York Mets officially pulled the plug on Matt Harvey’s start Saturday in Pittsburgh, but did they do it for the right reasons? Was it to give his blisters a chance to heal and begin a program to limit his innings or prepare him to pitch in the All-Star Game? Or, is it a matter of coincidence as to the timing? The Mets did not pull the plug on the All-Star Game, and if the...
