BOSTON — It might actually be easier to point out which parts of Shane Victorino‘s body aren’t hurting. Victorino has been banged up all season, yet the veteran outfielder continues to grind. Victorino’s latest ailment is a jammed right thumb, which forced him to leave the Red Sox’ 12-inning loss to the Orioles on Thursday. The O’s grabbed a 5-3 lead in the top of the 12th when Chris Davis smacked a two-run, two-out single into center field. Victorino, who wore a guard on his thumb Thursday, was pinch hit for by Jackie Bradley Jr. in the bottom of the inning. “He’s got a little bit of a jammed thumb,” manager John Farrell said of Victorino following the loss. “He’s wearing a guard to protect it, to give him some cushion. But we felt like after that final at-bat we needed to make a move there just because of the soreness he’s experiencing.” Victorino had three hits before exiting Thursday’s game, including a single off Tommy Hunter to begin the bottom of the 10th inning.
