By Will CavedoSportsonastick.comMay 11, 2009 Tensions between Boston Red Sox left fielder Jason Bay and Red Sox utility man Nick Green reached an unexpected head during yesterday's win against the Tampa Bay Rays. Two outs into the first inning, seemingly unprovoked, Bay began chasing Green around the field, slapping his teammate with his glove."They've been staring each other down in the club house all week," said Red Sox second baseman, Dustin Pedroia after leaving the game early, "No one's really sure what it's about, but Jason's the kind of guy who can hold a grudge for a long time, so it could be anything.""Honestly, I've totally forgotten what it's about," remarked Bay, "I'm sure it started during our time a couple of years ago in the [Pittsburgh] Pirates organization, but at this point, it's more like rookie hazing, you know? Just gotta make the guy earn what he's got," Bay added, "Plus it's freaking hilarious to watch him try to play and cover his head at the same time."Green had a different outlook on the situation, saying, "Jesus, I am so sick of that guy (Bay. He's been shooting spit balls at me during team meetings, paying the equipment guys to give me undersized jerseys, plus he keeps throwing the ball at my feet. It's really hard to catch it that low. That's why I started slapping him back tonight. My mother always told me you have to stand up to bullies and fight back."The altercation between Bay and Green delayed gameplay for nearly six minutes. Bay responded to Green's comments, saying, "You know, I don't know what that guy's complaining about. If baseball's not about a couple of guys dickin' around on a field, I don't know what it's about. He needs to relax."
