2011 is a new year and we are once again high on the Sean Rodriguez breakout potential this season in Tampa. Rodriguez set the world on fire last spring training hitting over .400 and belting 6 home runs. Then the regular season happened, Rodriguez could not find a spot in the regular playing rotation and he failed to put up decent numbers worthy of a fantasy play.

Rodriguez showed us a glimpse of what he could do, with regular at bats, by hitting .295, 6 HR’s and 17 RBI’s for the month of June whilst Jason Bartlett was out with an injury.

Well, Bartlett is gone penciling in Rodriguez as the everyday starting second baseman for the Tampa Bay Rays. Rodriguez could be a nice sleeper option should he be able to maintain a batting average above .280. 20+ homer potential and multi positional eligibility makes him an attractive pick at a weak second base position heading into this season. Odds are most people in your league will not have him on their radar allowing you to take a shot on him with a late round pick. I would not advise anything more than a late round flier at this point, however, another monster spring performance may change my mind.
