Smoltz/Traber Out - Woodward/Tazawa In

Adam Kilgore and Chad Finn at Boston.com report that the Sox are busy. The big news is that the Sox have designated John Smoltz for assignment. The Sox took a gamble on the aging righty but it did not work out.The club has replaced Smoltz with RHP Junichi Tazawa. My guess is that Tazawa is in town to be Buchholz' shadow on Saturday and if not used then will make the start in place of Smoltz on Tuesday. I would expect that if he is used heavily the Sox will send him down and call up Bowden for Tuesday's start.I love this idea. Tazawa is a relative unknown and as a pitcher who relies on deception might be able to fool some hitters and steal the Sox a couple of games. He really excited me when I saw him in the Spring and he has pitched very well in the minors so far this year.
