What a disaster. In the 2010 off season the Sox acquired both Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford, two big name players who were thought to bring the Sox to glory. With a pitching staff of a fantasy team (Beckett, Lester, Lackey, Buchholz, Papelbon) the Sox were the favorites to win the World Series, well we all know how that turned out.A rough April lead to a lot of doubters, but the Sox turned it on, come August they were the "best" team in baseball. Then September, the epic collapse, that brought the AL East leading Sox to the dumpster as they missed the playoffs. The 2011 off season saw the departure of manager Terry Francona. G.M. Theo Epstein fled town to go to Chicago. Knuckle ball pitcher Tim Wakefield and captain Jason Varitek called it quits, and Papelbon fled to Philadelphia. In came Bobby Valentine to hopefully turn the frown upside down, but again a slow start in April didn't help erase the previous season's failure. The Sox played up and down until late J...

Dodgers officially eliminated from playoff race, baseball season over

Mark Ellis' short fly ball to center field that, at first looked like it had a chance to drop, ended the Dodgers' season tonight. "Drop, drop, drop! Ahh f---!" That's a direct quote from me at the end of the game. Well, it was definitely an interesting season. There's still one more game -- a game that will be inexplicably started by Clayton...

Injury Roll Call: Kemp Needs Surgery, Kershaw Avoids It, Capuano & Treanor Suffer Injuries

Matt Kemp will undergo arthroscopic surgery tomorrow on his injured left shoulder to fix his frayed labrum. The rehab period could be weeks or months, depending on the extent of the damage. I said it when it was revealed to be a serious injury, but the fact that the Dodgers didn’t shut him down was ...

Trade With Steve Drennen: Picking Up A Matt Kemp Auto Makes For A #BeastMode Day.

I completed my first trade with Steve Drennen who, though he doesn't have a blog, is well known around these here blogging parts. Steve won a contest over at The Snorting Bull, and knowing the teams Steve collects, I thought he might be willing to part with his winnings if the offer struck him just right. It did, thankfully, and I was able to swing a deal for the above Matt Kemp...

Dodgers chairman exploring AEG bid

The new owners of the Los Angeles Dodgers may not be done acquiring sports franchises. Mark Walter, chairman of the Dodgers and chief executive of Guggenheim Partners, told the LA Times that his company is looking into whether to bid on AEG, which owns the Kings, Lakers and Galaxy. Guggenheim paid $2.15 billion -- a record price for a sports franchise -- in May to buy the Dodgers...

Los Angeles Dodgers slugger Matt Kemp says he'll undergo surgery on his left shoulder Friday. He made the announcement Wednesday after the Dodgers ended the season with a 5-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants. Kemp has a torn labrum in his left shoulder. He could have his shoulder cleaned up in a minor procedure or he could have the labrum repaired, which would sideline...

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp had surgery on his left shoulder Friday but should be ready by Opening Day, according to ESPN Los Angeles. Kemp had a one-hour procedure in Los Angeles to repair a labrum tear and some minor damage to the rotator cuff, the Dodgers said. He will start physical therapy in a week or so and is expected to start swinging a bat at the start...

Dodgers beat Giants to end season

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Clayton Kershaw finished with a major league-leading 2.53 ERA, Adrian Gonzalez singled in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning, and the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the San Francisco Giants 5-1 to end their season on Wednesday, a day after being eliminated from playoff contention for the third straight year by the NL West champions. Kershaw (14-9) allowed one...

Disappointing season, but future looks bright for Dodgers

The 2012 Los Angeles Dodgers season was one of immense change for the organization and left behind a sense of unfinished business. Though the results on the field weren't ultimately successful in the short term as the team missed the playoffs for the third straight year, the foundation has been laid for a team that, on paper, should contend in the foreseeable future. Then again...

Déjà vu: Giants eliminate Dodgers

Posey sends Bums packing Last night, the San Francisco Giants won their 94th game of the year with a 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers and — like me — Gigantes fans everywhere rejoiced in the fact that the team sent their hated rival packing for the offseason. It’s certainly not the first time these two teams have been involved in eliminating each other from the post-season...

Dodgers playoffs hopes end against the rival Giants, making a final GIFcap as tough as any

Buster Posey started the scoring in the top of second inning with a homer off Chris Capuano. A Luis Cruz RBI groundout knotted the game at one, but Joaquin Arias broke the tie with a homer in the top of the third. Yes, seriously. Joaquin Arias. Marco Scutaro extended their lead in the top of ...

De La Rosa, Sands complete LA-Boston trade

BOSTON (AP) -- The Boston Red Sox acquired right-hander Rubby De La Rosa and first baseman-outfielder Jerry Sands from the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday to complete the teams' Aug. 25 blockbuster trade. The deal sent righty Josh Beckett, outfielder Carl Crawford, first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and infielder Nick Punto to the Dodgers in exchange for first baseman James Loney...

Rebuilding - Where will it lead?

Rebuilding. That is not a term often used when referring to the Red Sox. Yet with the August trade, Sox rooters will have to accept the fact that the club is at that stage. On Monday night in New York, six players in the  lineup had started the season at Pawtucket. I'm not sure the fans and writers realized that when Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett were shipped to LA   the...
