Video: Ryan Ludwick's walk-off slam

Your browser does not support iframes. What's better than hitting a walk-off homer? How about nailing it against a bitter rival and your former team in front of a nationally televised audience. Ryan Ludwick was able to do all of the above after delivering his 13th homer of the season in the bottom of the tenth on Saturday. By doing so, he was able to help lift his...

Daily Brief: Cubs out of last place

Last Game The Reds beat the Cardinals last night to sweep the 3-game series in Cincinnati: Reds 4, Cardinals 2. It’s the Reds’ sixth win in a row, and that’s what it took to wrest first place in the NLC back from the Pirates. The Reds are now in sole possession of first place in the division by 1.0 games. Next Game Tonight, the Reds host the Diamondbacks at 7:10 p.m. at Great...

Reds deal Janish to Braves for Redmond

Right-handed pitcher Todd Redmond was acquired by the Reds, who sent infielder Paul Janish to the Braves. "Redmond will provide us with starting pitching depth in the minor leagues," Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said. "It's also a great opportunity for Paul to get back to the Major Leagues." Redmond was optioned back to Class AAA Gwinnett on June...

Rolen a true pro for surging Reds

This isnt like 2006, when former Cardinals manager Tony La Russa benched third baseman Scott Rolen twice during the playoffs. Back then, Rolen was not happy. He had given himself to the team physically during the regular season, playing 142 games with an ailing shoulder. He then proved his point to La Russa after starting the postseason 1 for 11, batting .351 with a .955 OPS over...

Reds unsure if starter Cueto can go Tuesday

The Reds aren't sure whether right-hander Johnny Cueto will be able to start as planned Tuesday because of a blister on the index finger of his pitching hand. Cueto was supposed to start Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals but was pushed back two days after he developed the blister during his bullpen session. He swapped places with Homer Bailey, who was moved up to Sunday...

Votto breaks out of slump with pair of hits

Joey Votto came out of a rare slump with a 2-for-3 night Sunday in the Reds' 4-2 victory over St. Louis. He went into Sunday's game with one hit in his last 13 at-bats. He was 6-for-28 (.214) since returning from the knee injury that had him out for three games. He even went hitless for two games in a row for the third time this year. Reds manager Dusty Baker doesn'...

Ludwick, Reds walk off winners

Ryan Ludwick homered in the 10th inning and the Cincinnati Reds beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 on Saturday for their fifth straight win. Cincinnati's surge has moved it back into first place in the NL Central. The Reds have matched their season high at 11 games over .500. Ludwick, a former Cardinal, got two strikes to start his at-bat against Victor Marte (2-2), fouled off...

Rolen's clutch hit sends Reds to win over Cards

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Scott Rolen hit a tiebreaking two-run single in the eighth inning Sunday night, sending the Cincinnati Reds to a 4-2 victory and three-game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals. The Reds' sixth straight win matched their best surge of the season, moved them a season-high 12 games over .500, and jumped them a game ahead of Pittsburgh for the NL Central lead. St...

How Sweep It Is!

Cincinnati came out of the All Star break on a roll with a sweep of division foe St. Louis. Sunday night's win put them back in first place in the NL Central. The winning runs in the final two games came off the bats of former Cardinals Ryan Ludwick and Scott Rolen. They are now riding a six-game winning streak as they stay at home to host Arizona.

Oh, how sweep it is!

The brooms were out in full force Sunday night at Great American Ball Park and for good reason. The Reds were able to sweep away the rival Redbirds with a thrilling 4-2 victory in front of a nationally televised audience on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball. And by doing so, were able to reclaim first place in the NL Central after the Pirates suffered a defeat.

Break Over And The Friday Links

Here we go. No better way to kick off the REAL start of the baseball season than with a three game kerfuffle with the Reds. (Side: Ho-ly crap, can we raise up off the Pirate’s business for about two seconds ESPN? They had a really good first half. Just like they did last year. Why don’t we wait until September before calling them ‘the real deal’. 19 straight losing seasons...
