Found December 14, 2012 on Fox Sports:
The St. Louis Cardinals, adding a right-handed hitter to their bench, reached agreement Friday with free-agent infielder Ty Wigginton on a two-year contract in the $5 million range, according to a major-league source. Wigginton, 35, spent last season with the Philadelphia Phillies, batting .235 with a .688 OPS, 11 home runs and 43 RBIs in 125 games. He played mostly first base and third but also appeared in seven games in left field. The Cardinals earlier this offseason pursued free agent Marco Scutaro to be their starting second baseman. That doesn't figure to be Wigginton's role - he last played second in 2010, and has been mostly a third baseman and first baseman in his career. St. Louis will be Wigginton's eighth team in his 12 major-league career. He is a lifetime .263 hitter with a .762 OPS, and teams also value him for his character and strong clubhouse presence.

The End Of Jared Schumaker In St. Louis

Skip Schumaker is no longer a Cardinal. He's been traded to the Dodgers for a AA infielder.  This isn't a surprise to anyone. Schumaker, the consummate professional, saw the writing on the wall with the Cardinals and discreetly requested a trade from GM John Mozeliak.    I'm pretty sure outside of his family and some truly die hard fans, this is really...

TCN Blog 2012 top story #20: Returning to Peoria and State College

The St. Louis Cardinals have enjoyed relative stability in their minor league system in recent years. That is due in a large part to the fact the organization owns five of its eight minor league affiliates. Two of the three others will be shifting for 2013 and beyond, but the changes are not dramatic. In fact, they are quite familiar and comfortable. On September 11, Triple-A Memphis...

The St. Louis Cardinals were Mark McGwire’s baseball home during his heights as player and as a hitting coach following his self-imposed exile from the game. These last three years had been part...

Did The Cardinals Miss Their Shortstop?

The St. Louis Cardinals went into the offseason with a very short shopping list.  Solidify the bullpen, which they accomplished with the signing of Randy Choate, and upgrade the middle infield. The rumors have flown and the team has been attached to just about any shortstop that was even rumored to be available.  While rumors and pundits wondered what direction they would go,...
