The Giants and right-handed reliever Santiago Casilla agreed to a three-year, $15 million deal on Monday, according to a source. The deal, which also contains a vesting option for a fourth year according to the source, buys out Casilla's final year of arbitration and two free-agent years. According to the source, if Casilla, 32, fails to reach certain thresholds, the vesting option becomes a club option. Casilla was 7-6 with a 2.84 ERA in 73 regular-season appearances last season. He pitched in two games against Detroit in the World Series, going 1-0 and not allowing a hit in 1-1/3 innings. The deal was first reported by Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle.

First, newly signed, and former, San Francisco Giants outfielder Andres Torres is known as a dedicated athlete, a wonderful teammate and is apparently...

There's no way you should have lost, right?...

San Francisco Giants Extend Santiago Casilla

The San Francisco Giants and Santiago Casilla have reportedly agreed to a contract extension.  Casilla initially replaced Brian Wilson as the team's closer this past season when Wilson underwent Tommy John surgery.  However, Casilla relinquished that role to Sergio Romo who performed wonderfully.  Casilla, though is still an important part of the Giants' bullpen, so...

Brian Sabean has forgotten how to build a bullpen

When the San Francisco Giants won the World Series in 2010, the team's bullpen was constructed in a way that most successful bullpens are: cheaply. Aside from Jeremy Affeldt, none of the Giants relievers on that 2010 team were signed to a multi-year contracts as free agents. Only Afefldt and Brian Wilson (through arbitration raises) were making seven figures per season. That...
