Catcher Miguel Montero has agreed to a five-year, $60 million contract extension with the Arizona Diamondbacks, major-league sources told FOXSports.com.
The deal is expected to be announced at a Saturday news conference, the sources said.
Montero, 28, earned his first All-Star selection last year. He's off to a slow start offensively -- .693 OPS in 38 games -- but is a rare commodity in today's game: a left-handed-hitting catcher who hits for power.
Montero, who is earning a $5.9 million base salary this year, had been scheduled to become a free agent after this season.
