PHOENIX -- Phenom Trevor Bauer will make his major league debut for the Diamondbacks on Thursday, sources with knowledge of the team's thinking said Sunday. Bauer, who has dominated minor league hitters at two levels this season, was pulled after making 50 pitches in his start for Class AAA Reno on Sunday, an outing that could stand as a perfect off-day throwing session before a Thursday start. "Soon," a source said when asked when Bauer would join the team. Bauer, 11-1 with a 2.23 ERA in 16 starts, leads all minor league pitchers with 116 strikeouts after getting five Sunday. He did not leave because of an injury, sources said. The D-backs need a starter in Atlanta on Thursday because Joe Saunders was placed on the disabled list with left shoulder inflammation on Saturday. Ian Kennedy would have been able to make that start on normal rest because of Mondays off day, but manager Kirk Gibson said in his press briefing Sunday that Kennedy will start Friday. It is n...

Trevor Bauer freed, will make debut on Thursday

A rallying cry this offseason among people watching the Arizona Diamondbacks has been "FREE TREVOR BAUER", referring to the fifth overall pick in last year's amateur draft who is running roughshod over the minor leagues. After 93 innings and 16 starts in the minors this year, the call has been made, and Bauer will make his major league debut for the Diamondbacks on...

Top Prospect Trevor Bauer to Debut Thursday

The Arizona Diamondbacks are reportedly promoting top pitching prospect Trevor Bauer to start on Thursday for the injured Joe Saunders. Bauer was selected third overall in the 2011 Major League amateur draft after a stellar college career at UCLA. The North Hollywood, California native, posted a 51-17 record while at UCLA and led the nation in 2010 with 165 strikeouts. In 16 starts...

D-backs put Saunders on DL; Bauer on way?

PHOENIX -- Diamondbacks left-hander Joe Saunders, who missed his scheduled start Friday, was placed on the disabled list Saturday with shoulder inflammation and will miss at least one more start. Is this the opening that brings phenom Trevor Bauer to the major leagues? Time will tell. Bauer, who leads the minor leagues with 111 strikeouts, and Patrick Corbin are the candidates...

Bauer might get shot with D-backs as soon as Thursday

Precocious Trevor Bauer appears set to make his major league debut this week. As accomplished as he is quirky, top prospect Bauer is expected to start for the Diamondbacks against Atlanta at Turner Field on Thursday. The team made no announcement before leaving on a road trip Sunday night, but FOXSportsArizona.com said Bauer has been chosen to start, citing sources with knowledge...

D-backs ink reliever Hernandez to 2-year deal

PHOENIX -- The Diamondbacks and reliever David Hernandez agreed to terms on a two-year contract, the team announced Sunday following a 5-1 win. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Hernandez, 27, would have been arbitration eligible for the first time following this season after making just under 500,000 this year. "I've heard horror stories about going through arbitration...

Young struggling to regain early season form

PHOENIX Chris Young spent the second half of last season playing through a swing-altering thumb injury that caused his offensive numbers to plummet, but he said this spring that he would do it all again if it necessary. Unfortunately and perhaps unfairly, it has been. Baseball is a game of adjustments, they say, but Young must feel that this is getting a little ridiculous. Left...

2012 Fantasy Baseball Lineup Planner – Week 13

D-backs give Hernandez 2-year deal

The Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to terms with primary setup man David Hernandez on a two-year contract. The 27-year-old right-hander has been one of the most effective relievers in baseball since joining the Diamondbacks to pitch in front of closer J.J. Putz. Hernandez would've been arbitration eligible after this season. Arizona announced the deal after beating the Chicago...

D-backs stay hot with another big day at plate

PHOENIX -- For the first time this season, Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson used the same lineup for the second straight game Saturday. It was partially due to matchups against Cubs left-hander Paul Maholm and partially due to the fact that his regulars are not in need of rest because of the off days sprinkled into the June schedule. And then there is the production. The D-backs...

Daily Notes | Bauer to Pitch Thursday?

Trevor Bauer pitched only 2.2 innings today. There was nothing physically wrong with him. He had 5 strikeouts and gave up 2 hits. Given that he met with the Diamondbacks front office earlier in the week to discuss how he would speak to the media and that Joe Saunders has been placed on the DL, it was pretty obvious that the Diamondbacks were set to call up their best prospect. Bauer...

D-backs 'feeling it' after dominant homestand

PHOENIX -- Though a strong week that included a series win over the Mariners and a sweep of the Cubs must be taken with a grain of salt because the opponents are both last-place teams, the Diamondbacks appear to be in sync like they have not been since the first few days of the season. With five wins in six games, including Sunday's 5-1 win, the D-backs have positioned themselves...
