Johnny Damon finally has a team. Damon, 38, will sign a free-agent contract with the Cleveland Indians, according to major-league sources. The deal will include a full no-trade clause and an "out" clause that will allow Damon to become a free agent on a specified date after outfielder Grady Sizemore returns from back surgery, sources said. Sizemore, who is on the 60-day disabled list, is not eligible to return until June 3. The Indians have struggled offensively, scoring 20 runs in five games while starting the season 1-4. Damon, a left-handed hitter, likely will play mostly in left field, a position currently occupied by Shelley Duncan, who bats right-handed. The Indians' other two outfielders, center fielder Michael Brantley and right fielder Shin-Soo Choo, also are left-handed, as is their designated hitter, Travis Hafner. Still, the team needs offense, and Damon proved with the Rays last season that he is still an effective hitter, batting .261 with a .743 OPS, 16 homers and 73 RBI.

The Cleveland Indians aren’t saying much yet when it comes to all the rumors they are going to sign veteran player Johnny Damon. Who can blame them? 2012 Waiver Wire – Week 2

The fantasy baseball waiver wire market got a little boost today with the announcement of Johnny Damon signing with the Cleveland Indians. Damon should take over in left field for the Indians moving Shelley Duncan to the bench. I would expect similar ratios of numbers that Damon put up last season and would definitely be looking to grab him in mixed-league formats as well as AL...

White Sox, 10 Indians 6: The Johnny Damon/Dan Wheeler Watch is On

If I told you that the Indians offense would put up six runs on 10 hits and Justin Masterson would be the starting pitcher, you’d have to say you like the team’s chances, right? But as a wise man once said “that’s why they play the games.” I was there. It was cold. It was very cold. Yet there was Masterson, the Tribe’s ace, in short sleeves. About 2500 of my closest...

A lot has happened in the eight days since I found myself downtown on Opening Day, but perhaps most importantly, the Indians have opened the season with a decidedly Wedgian record of 1-4. As we prepare fo our weekend tilt with the Royals, let’s quick hit some stories. Is it too early to panic?  Of course it is.  Don’t be silly.  But we also shouldn’t fool ourselves about...
