Found May 17, 2012 on Fenway West:
Clay Buchholz took the mound hoping to build upon his last strong outing and keep the winning streak alive for the Sox.  Clay pitched well and it could easily be seen as another step forward, however he would not get a win for his efforts.  Clay seemed to have his best outing stuff wise.  He was throwing all of his pitches for strikes and doing well.  However, a mistake in the 2nd would end up being the difference in the game for him.  Clay got called for a balk in the 2nd to plate Carlos Pena.  Sox 0-1.  Nava would tie up in the 4th with an RBI single.  Clay kept pitching and putting up zeros on the scoreboard until the 6th.  A ball deflected off Clay and his ankle.  The trainers came out and he seemed fine.  However, he followed that with a single to Carlos Pena and Bobby V went out to get Buchholz.  Andrew Miller got Luke Scott to fly out to shallow right.  Unfortunately, Cody Ross made an awkward catch and it allowed Joyce to get home.  Sox 1-2.  In terms of balks, the Sox wer...

Dice-K struggling in the minors

Red Sox fans expecting Daisuke Matsuzaka to be able to help out the Red Sox rotation have been hit with a dose of reality thanks to Dice-K’s less than stellar rehab starts. Last night Dice-K struggled, allowing 5 runs on 7 hits, no walks (the real shocker in his line), and 2 home runs allowed. In his 5 rehab starts, Dice-K has struggled mightily with allowing home runs. In his...

Will Youkilis finish season with BoSox?

I asked two general managers Thursday about Kevin Youkilis. The first said that he would need to see Youkilis play for an extended period before determining whether his team had interest, citing Youkilis' declining offense, defense and health. The second said he would not claim Youkilis and the approximately $9 million remaining on his contract if the Red Sox released the veteran...

Josh Beckett's Defiant Attitude Proving to Be Both Greatest Strength and Greatest Weakness

BOSTON –– This is Josh Beckett. At any given moment, Beckett can be a defiant personality, a man who is rarely remorseful and barely cares about the public perception. After last Thursday's debacle, he was unapologetic about playing golf –– during an off day –– while he battled a sore lat. The lack of remorse prompted many to call for Red Sox management to immediately...

Rich Hill the Second Red Sox Pitcher in Two Days to Get Drilled by Fly Ball During Batting Practice (Video)

The Red Sox have enough injuries without their pitchers getting hit during batting practice, but that's exactly what happened this week -- twice. Felix Doubront was struck in the ear on Tuesday at Fenway Park, and reliever Rich Hill took one to the arm Wednesday at Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay. Tom Caron and Dennis Eckersley talk about the flukiness and danger of fly balls for...

Josh Beckett Says He Wasn't 'Trying to Make a Statement' with Dominating Performance (Video)

Josh Beckett was out in vintage form on Tuesday, shredding the opposition through seven innings for his third win of the season. Beckett threw 93 pitches and allowed only four hits while striking out nine Mariners. The solid start came after a rough, 2 1/3 innings loss to the Indians last week as Beckett endured the recent controversy surrounding his golf outing. Beckett was also...

Good signs in Boston

So, when you get a plethora of injured outfielders, a pitcher who would rather golf than pitch sometimes and a rookie who is threatening to take over third base, what do you have? Well, the Boston Red Sox of course. 2012 has started out the same way for Boston that 2011 did, slow. The expectations of last year were perhaps much greater as the acquisitions of...

Beckett Dominant As Sox Roll To 5th Straight

Perhaps taking a page from teammate Jon Lester's complete game performance the night before, Josh Beckett put his stamp on the Red Sox 5th straight win, 5-0 over the Mariners at Fenway Park.Beckett was perfect through 3 innings and didn't allow a hit until there were 2 outs in the 4th inning. His afternoon ended with 7 innings, 0 runs on 4 hits, 9 strikeouts and a pair of...

Red Sox Live Blog: Felix Doubront Takes Hill Looking to Get Sox Back on Track

8 a.m. ET: After getting hit by a fly ball in Tuesday's batting practice, Felix Doubront is fine and will take the hill for the Red Sox (17-20) against the Rays (23-14). The lefty has won two straight decisions -- over the Royals and Indians -- and will look to extend his luck. When he took the mound against the Rays on April 15, Doubront was solid, allowing four runs and nine...

Red Sox 5, Rays 3

ST. PETERSBURG -- A night after their five-game winning streak was stopped, the Boston Red Sox regained their mid-May momentum, beating the Tampa Bay Rays 5-3 at Tropicana Field on Thursday. Cody Ross had a bases-loaded walk, solo home run and two-run single, and Marlon Byrd hit his first home run for Boston, helping the Red Sox gain a split in the two-game series. Felix Doubront...

No Youkilis in Cincy

A couple days ago Paul Daugherty of Cincinnati.com wrote a piece wondering if Kevin Youkilis would be a good fit for the Cincinnati Reds. He talks about how the Boston Red Sox third baseman is a native of the city could be the grinding power bat that the team needs. Well today John Fay also of Cincinnati.com has a quote from General Manager Walt Jocketty that killed any chance...

Boston Red Sox split with Tampa Bay Rays, now head to Philadelphia

Doubront has been a pleasant surprise for Sox fans so far in the season. Don't tell anyone, but the Boston Red Sox have been playing quality baseball as of late. Winning six out of their last seven, Boston sits at 18-20 on the season and are currently six and a half games behind the first place Baltimore Orioles. Yes let that sit for a minute, the first-place Baltimore Orioles...
